“Wave after wave of bats”
Head to this bridge at dusk to see the spectacle. There are several different spots where you can view the bats from. You are usually treated to at least 20 minutes of Bats if you get there on time this is truly something different to see while in Austin.
We went July 4th weekend so it was extremely crowded and the bats didn't come out till around 9pm so pictures were kinda dark and hard to see. Still worth seeing at least once.
Went to see the Bats last night and they came out pretty late so you couldn't really see them that good! A local told us they all had their babies around June and they come out later this specific time of the year.
We were there in August. One night we were in the observation park and the next night took a cruise on a Lone Star Boat. The boat is the way to go. Be sure that Kelly is the captain driving. She was so knowledgeable and appeared to genuinely love the bats and her city.
Went at the beginning of September and the bats were so amazing. They came out like clockwork right after the sunset. It is definitely worth a stop. Austin is amazing.
Aside from crowds my little family loved this! It's been several years and the kids were little but they haven't forgotten it. There are several spots you can see from. I'd love to take them again now that they are older.
This was too cool! I was walking my pup around lady bird lake at the right time and came across thousands upon thousands of bats in a constant stream leaving the bridge. It was very cool! There was quite a crowd, so we continued along our evening walk after enjoying for a few minutes. There were also evening cruises watching from the lake under the bridge, which might be a great way to check this out!
Worth checking out.
