From Houston to New Orleans to New Iberia to Charlotte to Banner Elk, David, Winston and Lee Ammann offer you their Texas-Louisiana family recipes in a casual, comfortable atmosphere in the High Country of North Carolina. We began as a corporate catering company in Charlotte, NC serving clients such as the Richardson family's Panther Stadium, Ken Schrader, Dale Earnhardt, Trammel Crow, ProLogis, Childress Klein, and Mary Tribble Creations. We opened the Bayou Kitchen in the Elizabeth Neighborhood of Charlotte in 1988, and the Bayou Smokehouse and Grill in Banner Elk in 2003. Then, in 2006 we opened the adjacent Bayou General Store. The Bayou Kitchen in Charlotte has been sold, and is now a restaurant called The Philosopher's Stone. Fortunately, many of our Charlotte guests and friends continue to "drive up the hill" and visit with us here in Banner Elk.
Excellent Texas and Louisiana food in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I guess they do let some Cajuns leave the state of Louisiana! Family friendly, kid friendly, dog friendly with a nice outdoor area. Some of our favorite menu items: gumbo, Voodoo pasta, any salad, bacon-lettuce-fried green tomato poor boy, smoked beef brisket fajitas and great burgers like my dad used to grill out in the back-yard. Really good beer menu. This is a place we visit often when we're in the area for the relaxed atmosphere, outdoor dining, friendly service and extensive menu.
