“Explore the first Eastern national park ”

Acadia National Park is a National Park located in the U.S. state of Maine. It reserves much of Mount Desert Island, and associated smaller islands, off the Atlantic coast. It's a stunningly beautiful place to unwind. The park is home to many plants and animals, and the tallest mountain on the U.S. Atlantic coast. Today visitors come to Acadia to hike granite peaks, bike historic carriage roads, or relax and enjoy the scenery.

The park includes mountains, an ocean shoreline, woodlands, and lakes. In addition to Mount Desert Island, the park comprises much of the Isle au Haut, parts of Baker Island, and a portion of the Schoodic Peninsula on the mainland. In total, Acadia National Park consists of more than 47,000 acres, including 30,300 acres on Mount Desert Island, 2,728 acres on Isle au Haut and 2,366 acres on the Schoodic Peninsula. The permanent park boundary, as established by act of Congress in 1986, includes a number of private in-holdings that the park is attempting to acquire. Cadillac Mountain, named after the French Explorer of the same name, is on the eastern side of the island. Its green, lichen-covered, pink granite summit is, because of a combination of its eastern location and height, one of the first places in the United States to see the sunrise. Miles of carriage roads were originally built by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. The mountains of Acadia National Park offer hikers and bicycle riders views of the ocean, island lakes, and pine forests.

Since 1999 propane-powered Island Explorer buses have carried more than two million passengers in Acadia National Park, eliminating more than 685,000 automobile trips and preventing 6,444 tons of greenhouse gases. The fare-free buses are supported by your entrance fees.

Absolutely breathing in every way from the sunrises to stone bridges to Thunder Hole to eating popovers at Jordon Pond House to hiking the various peaks! By far, my FAVORITE national Park!

Been here a few times. The drive up the mountain is scary, and amazing! Just outside of the town, there is a spot in the rocks along the ocean that allows the spray to fly up in the air. The town is overcrowded with tourists in the summer, but otherwise, very cool place.

Most beautiful place in the world. Classic New England feel, great seafood, stellar local beer, breathtaking views and scenery. You must stop if you're in the state!

Awesome for families--prepare to hike. The Beehive is the best for grade school kids and up--intense but short with breathtaking views. Don't miss Thunder Hole and the tide pools. Bar Harbor is often busy, but further reaches such as Southwest Harbor are quiet and charming.

A bit more touristy and populated than other parks I have been to but it is beautiful especially the bays and coves on the west side which are more remote.

A beautiful place, but we were there in August and the crowds were ridiculous. We camped at Blackwoods which was a real nice Park Service campground. But the traffic and people within the park made me want to cut our trip short.

An unique national park that combines coastal and mountain feelings. Whether you are a beach person or a mountain person, you'll have plenty things to do at Acadia.
Top priorities if you only have limited time and wanna enjoy easy hikes:
1. Ocean path trail: starting at sand beach, go pass Thunder Hole and ends in Otter cliffs. Enjoy the rustic coastal cliffs.
2. Drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain. The view is amazing
3. Jordon Pond trail: an easy stray along the pond and see the Bubbles from a distance.
4. Bubble rock: a fun place to do some creative photographs. There are three trails that leads to the Bubble rock near the summit of South Bubble, which has amazing views of the pond.
- The first is from the Bubble parking lot and is the easiest, which you need to be early in the morning to secure a spot.
- The second one through the other side of the South Summit trail and much steeper. The trail head is located at the northeast corner of Jordon Pond. This can be combined with the Jordan Pond trail by descending through the Bubble Dividend trail, which is also quiet steep.
- The third one is located near the south of Jordon Pond and actually goes to the Bubbles parking lot first.

Acadia National Park is the oldest national park east of the Mississippi. About 2 million people visit it every year. If you go, you have to hike to Cadillac Mountain, named after seventeenth century French explorer and adventurer, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac. It has an elevation over 1,500 feet and is a favorite spot for hikers. Also, the Somes Sound inlet in the park is considered “The only fjord on the East Coast”.
