“Private hot springs baths at a state park!”
The park's natural spring is used for mineral baths and other therapeutic treatments.
Take a bath in George Washingtons tub! The spring in itself is wonderful for kids to enjoy splashing in. It is very clean and has little fish and crawfish to catch. The water is high is magnesium which brings the side effect of feeling relaxed after bathing in it. Even my 11 year old daughter said she felt relaxed after two hours playing in it; and nobody had told her that the water was any different from home.
The town is cute but the traffic is so heavy and you can barely relax to the sound of nature due to tractor trailers. It is the main road to VA from here and I count a dozen tractors a minute almost constantly.
There is a nice amount of history here, even George Washingtons bathtub built out of rock and fed by spring water. His property is located just one block from the spring. It is a nice break point during a road trip.
Berkeley Springs State park. Quick history, Berkeley Springs is a small town in West VA known for its mineral water springs, which were thought to have healing powers. It was frequently visited for thousands of years by Native Americans indigenous to the area, and eventually notable colonial visitors such as George Washington and James Ramsey. Long story short, GW took a bath right here in the mineral spring tub. He also frequented with his half-bro, Lawrence, who was ill, hoping the springs would improve his health. Side note: we got in the water, no health improvements or declines to report. Not too much to do here, but the town was beautiful and definitely worth the stop.
