“art too ambitious for conventional institutions”
“Dia” is a name taken from the Greek word meaning “through,” and the Dia Art Foundation was founded in 1974 as a conduit for extraordinary art projects too ambitious for more conventional institutions. Dia’s long-standing philosophy embodies an in-depth, long-term commitment to individual artist, and following an artist’s vision and preserving it over time. Dia believes in the transformative power of art. Dia:Beacon presents Dia Art Foundation’s collection from the 1960’s to the present as well as special exhibitions, new commissions, and public and education programs.
Perfect day trip from NYC. I went for a day in July, beautiful train ride up there and a very cool escape from the city. I'd really recommend it for New Yorkers and tourists alike!
different art, not a very friendly place though.
Just a drive (or train ride) up the Hudson in a totally cute town. Stroll down by the water after you see the museum and grab some coffee on Main Street.
