“Hands-on exhibitions and underground coal mining tour”
The hands-on exhibitions and underground coal mining tour offer wonderful opportunities for our visitors to learn, explore, interact and share. At the Exhibition Coal Mine, one can ride through the dark passages of a vintage coal mine. The guides are veteran miners and provide firsthand accounts of the daily responsibilities and travail of past and present day miners.
Definitely worth the stop and a few hours dedicated to the town and the mine. Our guide, Marvin, was awesome and expertly addressed silly and serious question a like.
This is an actual mine that has been converted for tours to show what miners' work environment is really like. Guides are retired miners and are experts. There is a model company town and you can take a man trip shuttlecar into the actual mine itself. It's pretty dark in there! Great attraction and well worth a detour.
Great people and an awesome learning experience!! Very knowledgeable retired coal miner as our guide!!
Great place to spend a few hours. Under ground tour is about 30 minutes. Can be very dark, damp, and chilly. Kids museum is pretty cool... Kids liked it.
Well I have a toddler that doesn't like to sit still. There is a few times where you are sitting in the mine and listening to history. That didn't bode well for my toddler. I will say that as a family we still talk about our stop to the coal mine. It was worth every penny.
It's neat but not for young children!
worth the stop! *****
This mining experience is worth the trip. You really experience what it was like to be in a coal mine. Retired coal miners give the underground tour and share their personal stories.
Amazing experience!! Well worth the stop and the cost of admission to do everything ($20 or $10 if you don't want to go in the mine). Guided mine tour was fantastic. Very informative, knowledgeable, and friendly. May not keep the attention of little ones but safe enough to take them in as well. The mine has been reinforced by the government to make sure it is safe for tours. So happy we stopped here.
Way more interesting than I thought it would be. Go through the museum last but leave at least an hour or more for it because in many ways it was the most interesting thing.
