“Attractions & Culture in Bentonville, AR”
When Sam Walton opened his 5&10 on the Bentonville town square in 1950, he had no idea he’d planted the seeds for what would become the global leader in retail, saving millions of people money so they could live better. Today, that humble little dime store is the location of The Walmart Museum. A family-friendly experience in 3 parts, the Museum features a world-class exhibit gallery, Walton’s 5&10, and The Spark Café.
With the little museum is a little store and ice cream shop. The store has toys, Walmart souvenirs and candy. The museum is all about Sam Walton and what a great businessman he was. The ice cream shop sells ice cream and soda at yesterday prices, so there is always a line. We found the museum very informative about Sam Walton and Walmart dynasty. If you are in the area, stop in. They have bathrooms and it takes about an hour to see everything. I can imagine the area is very busy and crowded in the summer.
Very fascinating! Wasn’t sure how we would like stopping here, however it had a lot of interesting history of how Wal-Mart began. Definitely enjoyed our little stop here! Museum is free and the gift shop has great prices.
Excited to visit since I am a Walmart employee. Neat to see all the old items Mr Sam used, his truck and office replica. Had a delicious ice cream at the sweet shoppe. Thanks
Very neat museum that showed the humble beginnings of where Walmart came from. Sam Walton was a very grounded person and it was nice to see someone that lived his life in that manner even though he found fortune on his journey. The store had excellent prices and a neat selection of items.
