“Where history lives”

Opened in 1909, Boone Tavern began humbly with 25 guestrooms in a measure to accommodate the many visitors of Berea College President William G. Frost and his wife Nellie. Now, the guest room tally is at 63, and a recent $11 million renovation has upgraded many elements of the property, laying foundation for another successful century. Our award-winning Berea, Kentucky hotel is a member of the Historic Hotels of America and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We promise to uphold the ideals and standards that earned us this recognition, as well as the green practices that earned us the distinction as a LEED Gold Certified Green Hotel. Boone Tavern is owned by Berea College; its students make up about 50% of our staff. Part of Berea College’s requirements is that students are required to work at least ten hours per week at any one of the 140+ college departments and work areas across campus. Boone Tavern is one of these establishments. Students earn money for books, room, and board at the College – but pay no tuition – thanks to the generosity of donors who support Berea College's mission of providing a high-quality education for students primarily from Appalachia who have high academic potential and limited financial resources. The Shoppe at Boone Tavern is an old-fashioned candy store featuring sweet treats by Kentucky Chocolates and freshly baked pastry items from the Boone Tavern Pastry Chef. Parking, Biking, and Fitness at Boone Tavern: Parking at Boone Tavern is complimentary. We have reserved parking for handicap and for “Green” vehicles. We also have two plug-in stations for electric vehicles. Complimentary bicycles are available for guest recreation and for shopping. Please stop by the front desk for details and to make a reservation. The Seabury Center on the Berea College campus is available to our guests for exercise and fitness and is a short walk from Boone Tavern. Please contact the front desk to receive information on all the different activities available and times of service.

Boone Tavern is an institution for southern hospitality. This was a required lunch stop for many years on my family's way to Florida. If you don't know what "Southern Cooking" is, well, you're in luck. This is it!

Hours are on and off throughout the day:

Breakfast 7–10am

Lunch 11am–2pm

Dinner 5–8pm Sun.–Thu. 5–8:30pm Fri.–Sat.

Sunday Brunch 11am–2pm

Try "spoonbread" on the restaurant menu. ---- "Spoonbread is a moist cornmeal‑based dish prevalent in parts of the Southern United States. Although named a "bread", spoonbread is closer in consistency and taste to many savory puddings, such as Yorkshire pudding."-Wikipedia
