“seafood, family-style”
Open since 1985, The Assateague Crab House is a family owned and operated restaurant that brings the finest fresh seafood and chicken to local area residents and guests. Built on the rich restaurant skills and heritage of the VanFossen Family, we have developed fantastic relationships with the most reputable local seafood suppliers, developed a classically delicious and loved menu and continuously honed our passion and craft to provide our customers with the best dining experience we know how to give. Although the crab house has been open since '85, we've been building great relationships in food service and with the community a lot longer. That's because our commitment to family, friends and quality has always been our focus. And we work as a family to happily serve your family. For example, Nan...aka MOM... is 92 years old and still comes to work every day to make our crab cakes, soups & sauces (and most of her recipes are still a secret!). John and Lorraine VanFossen own the crab house and with help from daughter Missy, son Scott and his wife, Tracy keep it going and growing year after year. A true family affair, even grand kids Kobe VanFossen and Kazin VanFossen come in to help - from busing to just running around and helping where needed, they're learning and building the family legacy at the same time. And since family roots grow deep and spread far, we're also happy to say that we love the fact that so many of our guests have been with us here since the beginning, sharing, eating and growing their family right along with ours. For those parents and grandparents who remember when it was mostly local residents from the Delmarva region who operated many of the local restaurants in and around the Ocean City area, The Assateague Crab House brings back fond memories. You'll feel it when you step into one of the several unique dining rooms in the Assateague Crab House. Murals decorate the walls of two dining areas, and rustic paneling that is accentuated with local decor, photos and paintings line others. Their uniquely personalized and friendly approach toward everyone of their customers is a family trademark that is served along with every piping hot meal. The family style menu is designed to suit almost every taste and features many of the Delmarva region's most popular seafood dishes. Plus, it includes our popular Fried chicken, tender steaks, and St Louis style ribs. You can simply order a half dozen steamed crabs or one of our All-You-Can-Eat specials. The Lobster Bake is also very popular. Dinner entrees are traditional home cooked meals served with choice of vegetables, potatoes, or house salad - Our most popular is "Moms" Crab Cakes. We also have a wonderful childrens' menu. Our dedication to serving family style food and fun continues in our game room...because sometimes it takes mom and dad a little longer to pick those seasoned crabs. We offer plenty of fun options for kids of all ages, from kid friendly video games to a pool table. Just like our menu, there's something here for everyone to enjoy.
Pretty standard crabs but I think what made it extra good was the fact that I had crabs and fried chicken so winner for me! Well, I go back probably try something different. Read more
