“Fish in the Freshwater!”
One of several CCC parks in the state, Lee State Park was built in 1935 by the CCC in order to provide riverside recreational opportunities for the residents ofLee County, South Carolina. Along the Lynches River, which runs through Lee County, South Carolina and is partially protected from development by the state of South Carolina, kayaking and canoeing trips can be taken through the park’s hardwood forest floodplain. Fishing may also be enjoyed from along the banks of the river and children can fish for catfish in the park’s artesian pond. The park’s rich diversity of natural habitats and wildlife make it an ideal setting for nature walks and the interpretive, educational programs hosted on site. Equestrian facilities are also available. Lee State Park is one of the shrinking number of CCC parks with surviving structures that display the classic Conservation Corps architecture. Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on November 09, 2023We didn’t camp here, only drove through as we were camping nearby. They do have a Campground with close , wooded sites. It had a lot of campers in it but looked pleasant enough, though slightly cramped.
The day use area is beautiful and a nice place to walk or picnic.

The staff have been very helpful every time we have been here (family in the area). The bathhouse was clean, water hot and other campers quiet. Many sites flood, so if rain is forecasted, look for high ground. They are working on the sites to improve them.

Lee State Park is a small state park, but has several good hiking trails and roads for walking. The campground is more compact than at larger state parks and the sites are narrow, but it feels very natural and charming. There are no pull throughs, but each site has elec and water. My site has 30amp - I’m not certain if any sites have 50 amp. I am in a 35foot Class A with 2 slides and didn’t have trouble backing in, just went slow and made sure my slides were clear of the tall pine trees throughout the park. The sites are the sandy forest floor and most seem level. This park was very relaxing, with tall pines and hardwoods all around, and was great for walking my dog on the trails, boardwalk and sandy roads. Also, the camp hosts were awesome, very welcoming, helpful as I parked and invited me over to join their campfire.

Really nice state park. The camp hosts were friendly, helpful and flexible with our situation.
This is a really cool equestrian state park; meaning there are sites that are capable of pull through horse trailers and corrals for the horses. There is no real fishing spots, and no swimming area which we were disappointed about, but nonetheless this is a nice place. There are some places off of “Loop Rd” that you can pull off of and fish.
“Loop Rd” is a 5 mile one lane scenic road that you can drive around... and it’s gorgeous. I don’t know if it was a bad time of year or not, but I would recommend a four-wheel-drive vehicle on this loop rd. We never got stuck but the higher clearance of our vehicle really helped us get through it.
Other parts of the park you do not need a four-wheel-drive vehicle, I am only speaking of Loop Road.
90% of the roads are dirt roads, so if you have a choice to wash your rig before you come here or after, I would choose after. Your entire rig will get coated in the local white dust.

Nice state park and great rates. Partial hookups for $17 and full hookups in pull through spots for $22. All sites are sandy and potentially muddy based on frequent summer thunderstorms. Lots of shade all over. Perfect stay over location along our state park tour.

We were trying to find a place near Congaree National Park to stay for a night, on a weekend, last minute, and this was the only place within an hour of the park that had availability.
The road into the campground and in the campground is dirt and pretty rough. It seemed like they were in the process of putting gravel down for the sites as some of them had it and there were piles of gravel laying around waiting to be spread. Despite our site having the gravel spread, we still needed leveling blocks to get level.
We stayed in the normal loop of the campground but their is also an equestrian loop and horse corrals.
The bathrooms were not disgusting but not the cleanest either, there was also puddles around all the toilets. Nick described the shower as like a fire hydrant exploding- I’m still not sure if that’s a positive or negative.
The exit off the highway and road leading to the park are derelict and could easily be a set for a zombie movie, however we felt perfectly safe within the park.
Internet speed on AT&T was barely adequate for browsing. Since we weren’t doing much but sleeping at the park we didn’t try setting up the booster or Verizon.

Have waited six months into our RV life to start reviews for fair comparisons. Spent four nights. This was our first stop and one of our least favorites. Rough “roads” inside park with big ruts that filled with rain, horrific mosquitos (and we’re from SC for a baseline). Having the horses around was fantastic. Not a lot to do. That being said, this stop was perfect for what it was. Just getting far enough out of town to feel like the adventure started, but four nights there to get used to our RV. Great dog walking areas.

Lee State Park is geared for the equestrian crowd but is a nice place to stay even if you don't have horses. We don't have horses so we stayed in the "family campground," which is right next to the equestrian campground. It looks like the sites have been recently refurbished. The power pedestal and water spigot were brand new and most of the sites we looked at. The pad was a solid finely crushed rock with the remainder of the site being hard packed sand. There is reasonable separation from your neighbors, though the campground is in an open pine forest so there is not much low-growing vegetation screening you from the adjoining campsite. Bathrooms are centrally located in the campground, though I did not visit them so cannot attest to their condition. I would note that the roads in the campground are not paved so you can expect a bit of dust from vehicles driving by. I didn't notice the dust when sitting outside, but afterwards I could see it coating my trailer. In addition, because you are next to the equestrian camp, some campsites may get a bit of odor from the horses. If you're a sensitive city slicker choose a campsite at the other end of the campground. The odor doesn't carry far.
The State Park is characterized by its Loop Road which circles the park and provides access to its amenities. A portion of the loop road was closed to vehicular traffic while we were there due to flood damage. However the park staff were working diligently to repair the road and expected to have it open in a few days. However, you should not count on it being open to vehicles as it is in a floodplain. We road our bikes around it (5 mile loop) and enjoyed it, though I would strongly recommend a mountain bike due to the occasional patch of loose sand. It is a nice ride and there are several artesian wells you can stop at to refresh yourself. There are several hiking trails (and other trails reserved for horses) that can be accessed from the campground and wind through the forest. You can also wander down to the horse arena and possibly watch some riders practicing their craft. If kayaking is your game, there is a small access spot to the Lynches River along the Loop Road which can let you paddle a portion of this small river.

State parks like we love them, decent lot size, standard electric, water and a fire pit.
Sites are not leveled, at least sure 2 was not but 2 pads were enough to fix it .
The bathrooms are very clean but very outdated too.
There is a nice trail all round the camp, close to a 7 mile loop , perfect for mountain biking .

Not far off the hiway and just right for a short stay. Not too many amenities but I did see a sign for laundry. Level sites. Very wooded so satellite and starlink are not much use. There was good cell coverage for my Verizon though.
