“deep, beautiful canyon”

The San Juan River makes a series of tight turns - goosenecks - below this viewpoint. The river has carved a deep canyon here, dropping about 1,000 feet below the viewpoint. Geologists say this erosion has uncovered a rock record exposing some 300 million years of time. The state park offers spectacular views of the goosenecks, officially known as an entrenched meander. Over a distance of one and a half miles, the San Juan River flows for more than six miles through the twists of the entrenched meander. Goosenecks State Park offers picnic areas, primitive camping, vault toilets, and an observation shelter. The views are outstanding and photography is popular. At night the sky is expansive - ideal for stargazing. Please note: No drinking water is available. There are no maintained trails. The park does not offer access to the river.

Cost 5 dollars to get in, it's basically one overlook at the canyon/river and that's it. It was a cool photo opp but I don't think you need to spend more than an hour here. The campsites were the most primitive of primitive and cost 10. I'm sure the night sky would look good

So so so cool! Only reason I’ve given it 4 stars not 5 is because there isn’t much to do here, but if it’s a stop on your way somewhere like it was for us, it’s perfect for lunch and some insanely cool views. There is one hike. It’s only $5 and really worth the 20 minute stop.

Love this place for a photo or for camping. It is small, not many spaces but the views are stunning and the night sky wow. They have clean pit toilets and trash cans, some sites have covered tables and fire pits. Great spot
