“"Kachina," "Owachomo" and "Sipapu"”

Three majestic natural bridges invite you to ponder the power of water in a landscape usually defined by its absence. View them from an overlook, or hit the trails and experience their grandeur from below. Declared a National Monument in 1908, the bridges are named "Kachina," "Owachomo" and "Sipapu" in honor of the Native Americans that once made this area their home. Stand for a moment at an overlook. Nothing in the scope of your vision moves. Strain your ears for a sound; silence alone greets them. The desert landscape seems eternally unchanging. But stay a moment longer and a small animal sends a pebble clattering down the slickrock. Stay for an hour and the wind picks up, blowing sand and dust against you. Tomorrow a thunderstorm may send a flood twisting down the course of White Canyon. In one month, several tons of rock may thunder down from Kachina Bridge as it did in June of 1992 when 4,000 tons fell from the bridge. If you return next year, Owachomo Bridge may no longer be standing. The momentary stillness of Canyon Country is deceptive; the same processes which formed the seemingly eternal landscape you are enjoying today are still at work, continually changing the face of the earth.

Small national park with well paced the drive loop to see the three nature bridges. The park ranger is really knowledgeable for local history We came back 5 minutes after the closing, the park ranger opened the door and get the kids junior ranger paper signed off. Really appreciated his accommodation.

Beautiful spot! We only took the short hike because of the heat but the views were amazing.

We went off season Mar 1 around 5 pm so the visitor center was closed. The entry fee was waived and we were the only people in the park that we knew of. I like to get info at the NPS visitor centers, so it was too bad we got there late. There is a native plant walk and water by the center, a nicely paved loop road to see the bridges, and a campground. Go in season to get the most out of it, but not peak season. Beautiful park. We couldn't stay to see the stars but that would have been spectacular.

Pretty cool. If you’ve got time to kill in the area I’d say do it but definitely not necessary. Wouldn’t go out of your way.

Many bridges in one quick loop. Gorgeous at sunset. Great quiet hiking spot!
