Road Trip Classic

Our Take

Have you ever wanted to feel incredibly small? Do you love vegetables? Is your favorite color green? Are you trying to convince children that vegetables make you big and strong? All great reasons to stop and see this Jolly Green Giant. Personally, I love Jolly Green (I even made a Halloween costume of our beloved giant that has been recycled by friends and family multiple years.) Honestly, it's a GIANT, 55-foot-tall, bright green statue, and if you're passing through the area definitely make a quick detour to stretch your legs and snap some photos.

“in "The Valley of the Jolly Green Giant"”

on Route 169, in the city of Blue Earth, Minnesota, stands a 55-foot (17 m) fiberglass statue of the Jolly Green Giant. The statue was first unveiled in 1978, and was set on its permanent base on July 6, 1979. The statue attracts over 10,000 visitors a year. The statue is mounted on a pedestal and has steps so visitors may take a picture standing directly under it. The imposing Green Giant is typically included in lists of America's unusual or notable roadside attractions. Blue Earth is at the end of the Minnesota River Valley and still has a canning plant formerly owned by Green Giant that continues to can peas and corn each summer.

This was the first stop that we added to our trip out West. Even though it was raining and foggy, it was worth the photo op!! Posted photo on Facebook and got a lot of cute comments! Fun!

Cute little stop, friendly little shop. There is an independent cheese curd shop also near the parking lot... He sells a variety of curds (but my husband didn't tell me till after so I didn't get to buy any. Grrr!)

An easy on and off the exit roadside attraction that is a great place to stretch the legs, have a snack, and take some cheesy pics with the fam. Definitely worth pulling off for a 10 min pit stop (plus the gift shop has clean bathrooms!).

As an American icon, I'll give this 2 stars, but it really is something you can see from the highway in passing.

I grew up on the slogan, "Ho ho ho, Green Giant." So for me to see this huge 55.5 foot tall Jolly Green Giant, I was in 80's heaven. It's a really cool icon.

There is a little gift shop, the lady is super nice. Lots of parking and is located in a park setting so you can picnic or let your dogs take a break. It's close to the freeway and how can you not love a place called Blue Earth. Enjoy.

You don't have to be GREEN with envy, you can stop and see this GIANT hit too. It was a good place to stretch our legs with DQ Ice cream next door. But beware...as at other stops around, there are lots of Mosquitos.
