“the only one of three of its kind”
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is believed to be the only one of three its kind still in existence. Built in 1939, the building houses local tourist information center and headquarters for Main Street Blytheville.
Only a couple minutes off the highway and in an otherwise withering Main Street section of town, it's a gem of americana that's worth the stop.
As we snapped a few photos a gentleman stopped and was chatting. He reminisced to back in 1967 (as a young child), when he stopped in to use the bathroom. The manager told him no on account of the fact that he is black, but another employee told the manager "Oh yes he can and I'm gonna stand right here until he's through!"
I love how doing the right thing, even something seemingly small made a permanent impression in his life. :)
Great back to the great days!
No hours posted. We tried to see this at 11am on a Thursday but it was closed.
This Historic Greyhound Bus Depot houses the Blytheville, AR Main Street program now. It's very well kept up and was a great setting for pictures. Everything looks about like it did during the 50s and they have a collection of uniforms and artifacts on display. It was really just a leg stretching stop for us, but a very photogenic little place.
