We used our Boston Go Pass. Spent a lot of time in the museum. Not a huge museum but very interesting. Our 6 year old loved it. Did not hear "I'm bored" once. Definitely glad we stopped for the experience.
The museum isn't huge, but it's worth a stop... yes, even though it costs money. It'll give a lot of context to the next Freedom Trail stop (Boston Massacre Site) since it's literally just a memorial.
