“Nestled in the Scenic Turtle Mountains!”
Nestled in the scenic Turtle Mountains on the shores of Lake Metigoshe, Lake Metigoshe State Park was constructed by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s and is one of the most popular year-round vacation spots in North Dakota. The Chippewa called the lake "Metigoshe Washegum," or "clear water lake surrounded by oaks." Today, the lake is noted for its northern pike, walleye and perch. The rolling hills, aspen forests and small lakes attract nature and photography lovers to the area to capture these sights on film. The Old Oak Trail, a National Recreation Trail, is found within the park boundaries. The park has both modern and primitive camping, as well as picnicking areas. There are group dormitories, kitchen and meeting facilities and year-round cabins available for rent. Winter provides opportunities for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, skating, sledding and ice fishing. The snowmobile trails within the park connect with over 250 miles of groomed trails throughout the Turtle Mountains.

The park has lots to do with hiking trails, fishing docks, canoeing on School Section Lake (an undeveloped lake w/i the park), weekend programs for kids of all ages, a superb beach, and wildlife galore. Love it here!
We stayed here for a week while our daughter was at the International Music Camp. We had reserved our spot right when the window for reservations opened as we were there over the 4th of July weekend. During the week prior the area was very quiet and laid back and as it drew closer to the weekend things started picking up. Not necessarily in a bad way just a lot more people around. The campground was full but that wasn't an issue and the sites are large enough to have your own space.
Our site had water and electric hookups and a very nice shower house close by. There was a single lane dump station that was a bit busy at checkout time Sunday. The staff was very friendly and helpful and had the grounds in great condition for the busy weekend.
The real gem was kayaking on School Section Lake, adjacent to the park. While Lake Metigoshe is where all the cabins and boating activity is at, School Section Lake was quite and as smooth as glass. We came across all sorts of wildlife while kayaking. Deer, moose, and coyote on the shores and muskrat, beaver, ducks, geese, loons and pelicans on the water. The amount and variety of birds just from our campsite was outstanding and to the point that I had to buy a bird identification book just to try and make some sense of them all! :)
Overall, we would gladly stay here again and have our spot already reserved for this summer!

Stayed here 2 nights. Nice pull through site. Clean park. Quiet. No tv stations with just our antenna but not surprised by that. Very wooded. Nice modern shower with two private shower rooms in addition to the showers in the regular bathroom. Would stay here again.

Well maintained and clean campground!
Northern boundary of the Park is the US/Canadian boarder!
Lots of hiking trails throughout the park, with great scenery! One trail takes you to within a few feet of the Canadian boarder! Saw deer, ducks, beaver, and other wildlife while hiking the trails!
There is a canoe/kayak trail on a lake that doesn’t allow power boats!
One place to see is the International Peace Gardens, about 15 miles to the east! It straddles the US/Canadian boarder and is well worth the visit!
Of course there is Lake Metigoshe for those who bring their boats for fishing, etc.!

Our site was very spacious and fairly private.Great campsite host! We did have to share a water tap with the neighbor which is common in this campground. Its a good idea to have a spliter. Beautiful scenery, places nearby to shop, lovely lake with canoeing and water sports. We took our bikes and enjoyed the many miles of paved bike paths with a stop at the local ice cream spot.

Hubs and I stayed here with our two teen boys. Saw lots of wildlife, explored the bike/hiking trails, swam, fished, and took in the International Peace Garden. Full hookups and the public showers were clean. Camp hosts were very nice. They had canoes and kayaks for rent, a nice public beach and a dog park. A great trip! The cell signal was a bit weak and we could not find any local TV at night so remember to download your Netflix movies in advance if you are into that thing.

We were in site 48. Small site but we have a small trailer. We shared a water spigot with a neighboring site. All of the sites in this loop share water spigots between two sites. Our site was a back in site. We were in Washegum Loop. Close to International Peace Garden which is worth a visit.

Bring 100 ft of hose for shared water hookups. Site 47 is NOT near level. Site 48 & 49 look pretty level. Quiet and wooded though.
