“Home of the New Years Possum Drop”
Welcome to Beautiful Downtown Brasstown, North Carolina- "Opossum Capital of the World!"...Population 240, Been the same for 100 years or more. Some lady gets pregnant - some guy leaves town. Used to be the "Moonshine Capital of the South", but not anymore, it has gone to pot. The most exciting thing that we do in Brasstown, besides going to the John C. Campbell Folk School and dance with the pretty Danish girl, is "Lowering the Opossum on New Year's Eve." If New York can drop a "Ball", Georgia can drop a "Peach", then we can lower the Opossum." We have a lot of opossum thangs and stuff like canned opossum run over here in front of Clay's Corner by Mercer Scroggs...We even have the new Diet Lite for you over achievers at the supper table. There are T-shirts, bumper stickers, videos, coffee mugs, refrigerator magnets, and Clay's Corner Bubble Bath to keep ya clean. So, if you need something for that special someone who has it all, get him some of this stuff! And, if you stop by, you can fill-er-up at the gas pump, grab a fresh-dipped ice cream cone, and listen to the finest Bluegrass music in the South on Friday nights, when the local musicians take a turn pick'n and a grin'n until closing time. Now folks, this ain't no joke. We take our opossum seriously here at the epicenter of the entertainment scene in Brasstown. Clay's Corner has received critical acclaim in the eyes of the media. We been featured in The Asheville Citizen-Times, Our State Magazine, and Mid-Atlantic Country, just to name a few. 2013/14 Festivities starting at 10:00PM!!!! 2013/14 Tentative Schedule: 9:30 PM: Pre-show warm up, Bluegrass provided by Barker Brothers 9:45 PM: "Eulogy to a Possum" by Larry Witcher, Professor of Useless Knowledge 9:55 PM: Song by Madison Logan 10:00 PM: The "Blessing" with the Brasstown Brigade 10:10 PM: Bring in the Guest of Honor -Possum Arrives! 10:30 PM: Barker Brother Gospel Tribute 10:45 PM: Possum Idol Sing Off 11:15 PM: Miss Possum Contest 11:45 PM: A Tribute to Our Service Men & Women Countdown to Midnight The Grand Finale ..Fireworks!

I had to stop by Clay's Corner in Brasstown, NC. I felt like I stepped back in time. Kind of like the old gas stations on the Andy Griffith Show. I got to shoot the shit with Clay and a couple others. And of course, I left with a couple cans of oppossum to take home with me. I memory I'll never forget. Go see Clay if you're ever in the area.
