“Jamaican vegetarian cuisine”
Casual cafeteria-style set up featuring Jamaican cuisine using wheat gluten, soy, and veggies. Offer dishes like "rasta pasta". Approximately 15 dishes from which to choose, generous portions. Has 5 small tables for dine-in.
Absolutely, positively amazing. Do not let the looks fool you, that's not what's important, it's all about the food. When I first went in, I asked (who I assume to be) Shandal what the best choices are. As I was going with the 6 for $9, he told me to "go with what my eyes tell me", and then from what I chose he picked a couple more complimentary dishes to go with what I chose.
Even if you are a meat loving carnivore, Shandal's is a place you need to try. The BBQ Tofu with onion is the absolute closest thing I've had to real BBQ. I could have a container full of that and be happy! The lima beans are another item that will change your mind about a common 'bleh' food. They taste unlike ANY lima beans I've ever had and as I'm writing this I'm craving more. I could go on about every dish I had, but I'll limit myself to now just mentioning also the Rasta pasta. It's a whole wheat pasta with spices (but NOT spicy at all), so it comes out red, and is incredibly flavorful.
While it's mostly just take-out, there are a few seats where you can eat there. You can't go wrong with either flavor or value of what you get.
