“Home of the Queen of Barbecue”
Hailed as the Queen of Barbecue by the Southern Foodways Alliance at last year’s Wine + Food Festival in Charleston, S.C., Helen Turner has created a pork lovers mecca in Brownsville. Turner is one of the only female pitmasters in the country, making her delicious pork shoulder and famous sauce out of small restaurant with the smoke pit located in a screened porch off the back. Turner has been featured in media outlets around the country from Southern Living to Saveur. The pork platter comes with beans, slaw and potato salad made from scratch in the kitchen. Most people say it’s the sauce that packs the flavor – but the Queen of Barbecue says it’s the hickory smoke that makes this pork special.
