“fascinating place for hiking”
Coopers Rock State Forest gets its name from a legend about a fugitive who hid from the law near what is now the overlook. A cooper by trade, he resumed making barrels at his new mountain hideout, selling them to people in nearby communities. He lived and worked in the forest for many years. During the Depression, between 1936 and 1942, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built numerous structures in the forest, often using durable American chestnut wood from trees that succumbed to a blight that nearly wiped out the species. Eleven of these structures, including the rustic picnic shelters near the overlook, have been included on the National Register of Historic Places. Coopers Rock State Forest is 13 miles east of Morgantown and 8 miles west of Bruceton Mills. Its 12,713 acres are bisected by Interstate 68. Although the forest serves as a recreation and preservation area, it has a wider range of uses. West Virginia's state forests also serve as areas of publicly owned land for forestry research, timber management, and watershed and wildlife protection.

Very close to great views and hiking overlooking the Cheat River Gorge! We also visitsd Pricketts Fort, state park (historical site) which was enjoyable.
Some sites reservable.

We stopped here on the Monday before July 4th for one night. It was very easy to find - right off I 68 at exit 15. We weren’t expecting much and we were surprised. We found a pull-thru spot long enough for the motorhome and toad. They have 30 amp Electric plus very clean restrooms with free hot showers. Plus WiFi (although it didn’t work that great). There are only 25 camp sites and they were more than half full. There is a even a little camp store. The hosts were very friendly. Lots of trees for shade as it has been very hot the last few days.

Only 25 sites — it was quiet. Clean bathrooms—shower looked okay. No water at most sites. Really nice staff.

This campground was nice. It was relatively small, so it was quiet. It also is an easy walk to multiple trails which is always a plus. We had electric only, but there's water and a dump station right at the exit of the campground. There's also a room with a sink to wash dishes in. The roads are really narrow within the campground which makes it really awkward to maneuver into the spots. We also had an issue with the booking system because somehow it put us into a tent site so when we got there we were put in one site and then had to move midweek. They were super nice about it, but it was kind of a pain. Service was mostly non-existent but it was better the closer to the entrance/exit if you need it. The park itself was beautiful and there were some nice biking trails, so It's definitely worth a visit.

We pulled in here for the night on our way back east. Beautiful and quiet campground with just a few sites. We booked online just a few hours before arrival and it was perfect. Gas/grocery are about a 15-20 minute ride away, there’s nothing at the same exit as the park so if you don’t plan on going anywhere be sure to bring what you need. There is a small camp store but it was closed while we were there (we arrived after 5pm). One clean bathhouse with hot showers (yay!) and laundry. We stayed in site 10 and it was level (some sites weren’t). Wish we could have explored the park while we were there. We have Verizon service and there was mostly no service at all.

What a sweet camping spot. Everyone was nice, it was quiet and lovely! We had spot #1 which was pretty private. It was also super easy to back into. The hiking trails from the campground were esy and enjoyable, and if you go down the road to the the magestic overlook, the trails from there bring you through breathtaking scenery! There is only electric here, but there is a dump station as you leave.
Be warned that the roads are pretty narrow and it was a little harrowing towing our big 5th wheel - but we made it! I would definately come here again.

Darling little campground with nicely space and maintained sites. Friendly check-in and decent onsite facilities.
Several hiking trails accessible from the campground, but it was too rainy/muddy during our stay to partake. Dump station is immediately on the right hand side of the road as you come into the campground - positioned for RVs leaving not arriving (so using them when arriving means having to loop around).
We had Site 10, which was mostly level for our van - but more of a pull off the road than a back-in site.
GPS sent us to the park maintenance and headquarters on the wrong side of the interstate, so check directions carefully before arriving.
Too many trees at our site for Starlink to work, but we were able to eek out enough with a cellular connection to get online and do the basics. Don't recall which carriers works best here.

I spent 3 nights here. Hiking is great, trails are everywhere. It was raining so it was muddy, but that happens when it is raining for days on and off. There is an electric hookup 30AMP but water is spread out throughout the campground and one at the dump station. The campground is small and heavily wooded.
The road up is tight, not to steep but no shoulder and ditch on both sides of the road. You better go slow with an RV, most of the time you will have to cross the middle. You have to be really careful.
The campground has ditch by many of the sites, for draining rainwater, you have to be careful to back into your spot.
My AT&T was slow. Very slow. Starlink was ok on site 18 (with about 2 minutes of obstructions) but when I moved over to 17 Starlink didn't really work anymore. Each minute I had 20-30 second obstructions, basically it was unusable. To be honest, I think the only site in the campground with usable SL is spot 18, but even that is not perfect. The rest of the spots will be way worse.
Visible was not working and Tmobile worked but not too fast.
There is a laundry facility with a cheap wash, only $1 was and $1 dry. Only one machine.
Overall, I liked this campground for the hikes and it was peaceful during the week.

We spent 10 days relaxing, hiking and biking at this beautifully treed campground. Some sites are closer together than others, the back ins seemed more spacious than the pull out/ pull thrus did.
The big news is that they are currently adding another 25 full hook up sites that should be ready for campers next summer!
Verizon cell service and hot spot were stable at 2 bars, but faded back and forth from 5G to LTE at times, we also have a WeBoost to help with the cell service.
