“Beautiful park with plenty of wildlife”

Montgomery Bell State Park is located seven miles east of Dickson in Dickson County. The park was once the center of iron industry in Middle Tennessee. The park’s namesake, Montgomery Bell, formed one of the largest iron industries in Tennessee. Iron was once thought to be more valuable than gold and was a very lucrative industry at the time. The site of the first Cumberland Presbyterian Church is also located at Montgomery Bell State Park. The church was founded in 1810 in the log cabin home of Reverend Samuel McAdow. A replica of the cabin and a church are located within the park. Montgomery Bell State Park is equipped with a conference center that can host up to 500 people. The onsite restaurant is open every day and available to cater events. Within the center, the inn offers 120 rooms and five suites. The park also has eight environmentally-friendly modern cabins available for rent.

So many reasons to love this State Park -

1. The sites are great. We were in #92, which is right by the stream that runs along the base of the mountain. It was peaceful and the site was very level, and well-appointed with a nice fire pit and picnic table.

2. Good dump station. Nice and clean, and with functioning water.

3. Hiking! There were so many nice lakes within the park, all with great views. They're not really walkable from the campground - so prepare to drive around the park.

4. Food - if you're not in the mood to cook, or tired of the same old camper food, this park has a really nice lodge with a phenomenal buffet. I mean, this buffet was an actual highlight of my week!

I come through this area frequently, and this park will be a repeat stop every time.

We camped by a wide, swift creek. It was very peaceful.. There were nearby campers only during the weekend. We never saw anyone at the park office. It was closed, so we did not have access to firewood, although we did not drive to other park offices to ask about firewood. We were not allowed to bring outside firewood in. It was okay, as we did not plan to have a fire in the firepit, but keep this in mind if you need it for cooking. We ate one meal at a nearby restaurant, easily accessible within a couple of miles outside the park gates. It was called Catfish Kitchen. The food was good. There were plenty of grocery stores in the nearby town of Dickson. We were not able to get internet access or cell service from Verizon in the park. We did not havea booster. Don't know about tv reception over the air. Its a great place to read a novel or watch squirrels. The bathrooms were clean. The showers looked fine. Our pad was level. We have a small class c and had no trouble with access. Some of the turns may be a little tight for larger RV's. However, some large class a's and tt's were there.

We stayed one night on the way home during a very rainy weekend. Our site was level and easy to access with a wide gravel space for the rv, picnic table and fire ring. The bathhouse was clean and well-lit. The road through the campground is surrounded by trees and is narrow in some places but we saw many large 5th wheels and Class A's parked throughout the campground.

The road getting to the park was a very narrow, steep, twisty 2 way road about half the size of one lane. Nearly got ran into multiple times by someone coming down a hill while I was going up it. There are pretty sheer drop offs on the side of the road too. The campgrounds are well maintained but you really have to wind your way around and be careful not to scrape against anything. Backing into my spot was pretty hairy as the main path going through the campsites is very narrow. I see a few huge class A's here and some larger travel trailers so if you feel comfortable and experienced handling the aforementioned terrain, go for it.

My site was level and very clean. The park is beautiful and I wish we were staying longer. Overall I feel that it was worth it. My site backs up to a creek and while shaded, it is not dark nor are there tree branches hanging over or scraping my trailer. It is dog friendly which is a major plus for me, and it is fairly quiet on a Monday afternoon.

LOVE this place and wish we had stayed longer! We were "workamping" and found Montgomery Bell to be perfect--quiet, great cell service, and enough trails to take quick breaks throughout the day if we needed.

Be mindful of the route you take to get to the park. There is an UNMARKED low clearance bridge...

It's close to Nashville, so it's obviously the go to spot for families that want to get out of town for a bit. Our stay was apparently during fall break for students, so the campground was packed. Which is great...there are a lot of other things families could choose to do and it's great to see folks taking their kids out in nature. My criticism is only that the campground had turned into a tent city. Not camping tents, but the kind people rent for wedding receptions and graduation parties, the big white vinyl kind. I even saw a couple of carport type structures, the kind with a metal pole frame and white vinyl stretched over it. So it felt more like being in a carnival than in nature. I believe this isn't common based upon the opinions of folks i've spoken with that are regular campers there.

We were in the red section, which is full hookups and of course the most crowded. Had we opted not to have sewer or if the girl at check in had been a bit more forthcoming, we would have taken a spot in the blue section towards the back where it wasn't nearly as busy, which has water and electric. Now we know for next time.

Overall the campground is nice. It is shaded and comfortable, although a bit crowded. Our site was right on the creek. The road through the campground is narrow and larger rigs will definitely have a tight squeeze or two between trees close to the road just past the check in station on the way towards the back of the campground.

Overall we would gladly stay here anytime we're passing through the Nashville area.

Nice sites along the creek. Bathrooms a little dated. We enjoyed our stay. Lots of people from tents to big rigs.

Lovely quiet campground with full hookup sites. Wifi is disappointing as only get 250MB for 3 days. Rangers patrol frequently which is good.

We had one of the older sites which doesn't have much shade during the day. I recommend getting one of the sites with full hook up as they are newer and appear to be more level. They also have full hookup while the site I occupied was electric and water only. It is however close to the shower house and next to the disabled sites. The shower house was clean and well kept. We were able to drive over to the Grand Ole Opry one night and enjoy the show. The drive back in the dark on a motorcycle though was a little challenging due to the roads here.

Beautiful State Park with lots of things to do to stay busy or relax by the beautiful stream. We pulled in to use the dump station and ended up booking 2 nights last minute. Sites are close together but that didn’t bother us. We stayed in a site with electric and water only. We will stop by the dump station on the way out. Received senior discount so with tax, just $25/night. Will stay again if in the area Friendly and helpful at check in.
