I've passed by Glass Creek many times over the years, always saw crowds, chaotic parking arrangements, and apparently rowdy groups. I never wanted to stay there before this trip. My friends picked this location. I wanted to see them, figured I could put up with the campground for a couple of nights. What a nice surprise to find that it has been tamed and rehabilitated!

Camping is free; donations are accepted. This is a dry camp, no water, no trash pickup, no hookups of any type. There are numbered sites with picnic tables and fire pits. USFS is in the process of installing bear boxes. There is a friendly camp host who came around and introduced himself. The area ranger also came by to chat with us about how they have been improving the campground area. There were still some noisy groups, but they appeared to have been gently guided into an area down the road from the main camp.

We camped at Glass Creek for 3 nights, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, during warm clear weather in late September. When we arrived, the place was about 3/4 full. It never filled all the way. Except for some road noise from nearby Highway 395, days and nights were quiet. Many people had off-road equipment, but they were quiet entering and leaving camp; there was minimal dust.

Access & location: Easy to locate with highway signs. Right across the road from the highway maintenance station at Crestview. Short road to the camp area is a bit bumpy. Close to 395. All roads are sandy dirt. Watch out for off-road vehicles on trails crossing the access road.

Site quality: Decent spacing, not a lot of privacy. Sites for any size rig from small to huge. Many pull-throughs. Food must be protected from bears, although the only animals we saw were little chipmunk things. The tall pines made this maybe not a great place for rigs with solar panels.

Cleanliness: No litter on the ground, just nice natural pinecones and such. Clean old-style pit toilets; ranger says these will be replaced by more modern units soon.

Noise: Not much. Some highway noise. Most campers were either relaxing or away most of the days. Very little generator noise. My group pretty much just sat in camp and enjoyed the quiet.

Sorry, but no photos this trip.

This National Forest campground is located with easy access right off hwy 395. Close to Mammoth Lakes and surrounding area there is plenty to see and do while here.
There are various lakes in the area (June Lake, Convict Lake, Mono Lake to name a few) as well as hot springs (wild willy's), Hot Creek Geological site (must see!) and lots of hiking.
Mammoth Lakes is a cute town with a great brewery too.
The campground itself is pretty basic with bear lockers at some sites (they are adding more and yes you should use them!!) and vault toilets. You can get water a couple miles up the road at the rest stop for free.
The camp host was friendly and knowledgable about the area. There is a dump station located in Mammoth for $5.
It is an active campground and is busy but we had no trouble securing a great site. Some ATV/OHV activity but not bad.

Glass Creek Campground is a BLM spot in June Lake, CA near Mammoth Mountain. It's extremely easy to access. GCC is right off Highway 395 with only a short dirt road to get to the campsites. There's a ton of spaces for tents, fifth wheelers, toy haulers, and motorhomes. I've seen both backpackers in tents and families with massive RV setups stay here. There's something for everyone.

We have a 36ft motorhome and tow a small car behind it. We had no trouble finding a level spot. There are many. We moved about three times because we had to find the perfect spot for our solar panels! The area is very woodsy--lots of pine trees and places to find shade--so if you have solar panels I suggest the south side of the campground because it has fewer trees.

There are bathrooms, fire rings, and picnic tables.

There's also a creek running through the north and south sides of the campground. We drank from it, "bathed" in it, and used its fresh water to fill up our RV tanks. If you're not as adventurous as us, there's a rest area about 5 miles down the road where you can fill up your fresh water tanks and/or drinking water. To dump, there's multiple RV parks in the area.

We were here in August and the weather was gorgeous. There is SO much to do in Mammoth. Hiking, swimming, off-roading, horseback riding, breweries, bars, and of course, excellent pizza. It's going to be difficult to leave! There are so many trails you can walk or hike directly this campground. We found waterfalls 2-3 miles away, creeks around every corner, and lots of rocks and mountains to climb. On days we didn't venture out, we enjoyed a good campfire and the peace and quiet.

The town of Mammoth is about 15 minutes away from Glass Creek. There's a Vons, a laundry mat, a gas station, a library, a Rite-Aid and a magical place called "Schat's Bakery."

As far as BLM spots go, this place is unbeatable. I could live out here! June Lake, Mammoth Brewing Co., and the little trails around Glass Creek have been our favorite places to visit.

Finally, the only downside to this campground is the lack of cell service. We have Verizon LTE with a cell booster and we still only got about 2-3 bars at best. This was a major problem for us because we work on the road. Anytime we had to do webinars or use a lot of bandwidth, we had to leave the spot and go into town. If you don't mind that, then this spot is for you. You won't regret it.

This was our first free camp and it was awesome! These camp sites are set up with most everything that a regular site has...

Picnic table, fire ring (with grill), and bear box.

The sites past the creek have better cell signal.

My cell numbers are with a wilson 4gx booster.

Seriously, these toilets were cleaner then the national park I’ve recently been in. A little highway noise on this end, makes sense as the few other people are at the far end. There’s bear lockers, fire rings and picnic tables. But I did see a notice that the grounds will be closed after 31st October.

Came to Mammoth for spring snowboarding and this is the first time at this campsite. Great location, so close to Mammoth and has pit toilets. Huge lot. Sign says the campground is closed but there are parked RV’s and tents. So glad to have come here than staying at overpriced condos. Of course, if it were freezing temperature, this might not work out.

This place is amazing. If y’all like Ponderosa Pines and cool breezes, this place is for you.
Plenty of room for everyone. There are 50 spaces just in this campsite along and plenty more within a few miles.
The restrooms are closed in the off-season
I highly recommend this spot.
Only 7 miles from Mammoth Lakes. Witch is a good spot for all your supplies.

Very nice wooded forest service campground. Tons of level sites with hardly anyone around. No water or garbage but very clean pit toilet bathrooms. Gentle running creek on west end. Only a mile off 395 but no road noise. Road in was a bit lumpy but no problem for our 27' itasca class A.

We boondocked here for 14 days with no issues. Gets busy on the weekends with ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikers but all we encountered were courteous and friendly. Narrow creek runs thru the campground. Wooded, spacious sites with bear proof lockers and fire rings. Well maintained for a free campground! Tons of trails surrounding for hiking and biking. Deer walked they our site regularly but no bears spotted. We will definitely return!!
