“fine food & liquor”
Some say things happen for a. reason. And with that mantra. in mind, keeping us moving forward, Hungry Mother was born Here's the short story: Hungry Mother is a neighborhood restaurant, offering a welcoming place to enjoy great food, unique and local wines and beers, as well as cocktails and liquors. Chef Maiden's food is blend of his training in classical French techniques, his Virginian roots, and his commitment to local sustainable ingredients.
A wonderful little piece of the Appalachian South, well-put when summed up as "'Hungry Mother' does not describe a mom in need of a meal. Instead, it is part of a conversation: "I'm hungry, mother". The restaurant, as doting and caring as a Southern matriarch, brings you into her home, providing an escape from the world with the comfort of food."
This place takes me immediately back to Durham, NC and it's culinary-southern-fried-local wonder. I'd describe this food as higher end, but a bit funky southern food and it's definitely worth a stop.
Fantastic restaurant, which unfortunately I closed permanently a couple of years ago.
FYI this closed about two years ago. Good news though, it's been replaced by "Cafe du Pays" - same owners. Delicious, innovative Quebecois/Canadian comfort food, intimate warm atmosphere, terrific wine & beer.
