“yumm Cave Bacon”

South-central Kentucky is home to hundreds of caves. Each cave is unique in size, structure, and appearance. Caves can be either 'wet,' which are actively forming, or 'dry,' where water is no longer entering the cave. Onyx Cave is a wet cave that offers its viewers beautiful cave coral, a wall of cave bacon, and a 40 foot column. Onyx Cave was discovered in 1971 as a parking lot was being constructed for Guntown Mountain Amusement Park; the cave was opened in May of 1973. The cave is a comfortable 60 degrees year round. Tours are 30 minutes long and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the unique formations in the cave. Perfect pit stop. Small rock store and $9 cave tour that last Aprox. 30 minutes. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the cave owner runs the store.

Not pet friendly or toddler friendly as the stairs are steep and there are slippery sections.

Stopped here as a "pit stop" along our long drive. Very nice place with very nice people. The tour was approx 20 minutes long. Perfect little stop to help our kids stretch their legs. We learned a lot. It was very affordable. The cave had pretty coloring and neat features. Small stairs, some small passageways, but safe. Excellent "starter" cave.

Most recently discovered cave in the area. Small cave but great tour guides and a good price! A must see.

The tour was about 30 mins or so. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy his work. There are some tight spaces to walk through so this may be a problem for some people. This tour was a perfect spot to stretch your legs during a long road trip.
