Visitors to the 1843 Battery Carriage House Inn have the unique opportunity to revel in Charleston’s historical origins, its modern charms, and up-scale hotel accommodations. Just through the crafted iron gates of our inn, guests can watch sailboats skim along the waters of Charleston Harbor with legendary Fort Sumter in the distance. In the foreground are Civil War-era cannons lining White Point Gardens — better known as “The Battery” — and its beautiful, peaceful park lined with massive oak trees that have witnessed the history of this amazing site where the civil war began. Each room features a private entrance from our brick-lined carriageway and the Charleston gardens beyond. This charming Charleston inn is home to several ghosts. Room 3 is haunted by some strange spirit who appears as a “giant firefly glow”. A headless torso haunts Room 8. Some guests have reported he watches them while they sleep and breathes quite heavily (on a side note, I’ve got an ex-boyfriend who also fits this profile). Lastly, Room 10 is home to a “gentleman ghost”, so take that however you’d like.
