“An island, restaurant, and state of mind”
Welcome to Bowens Island! Whether you're a first-time guest or a long-time regular, our aim is to serve you simple, excellent seafood. Located at the tip of a 13-acre island, 5 minutes from Folly Beach, the restaurant is famous for its locally harvested oysters, fried shrimp, hushpuppies, Frogmore stew, cold beer, and its undisturbed view of river, marshes, islands, and wildlife. Bowens Island has been named as one of America's Great Seafood Dives by Coastal Living and one of the Top 10 Southern Seafood Dives by Southern Living. If by "seafood dive," these magazines mean a simple place with traditional fare, unforgettable ambiance, and an interesting history, then we'll take the compliment. When you add in our spectacular sunsets and lowcountry way, you'll understand why locals and folks from all over call Bowens "an island, a restaurant, ...and a state of mind."
At Bowen's, meals are measured by the shovelful, as freshly-roasted oysters from the river winding through the property are deposited on your table until you beg the cooks to stop.
