The Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia opened on July 12, 2003. The Center, a 240,000 square foot structure, houses performing arts, visual arts and sciences under one roof - one of the few of its kind in the country. Located in the state's capital city of Charleston, the facility is home to both the Avampato Discovery Museum and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

The 240,000 square-foot building is completely dedicated to the performing arts, visual art, and the sciences. That includes the Discovery Museum, the Walker Theater, and the planetarium Electric Sky theater. Guest can tour the galleries, watch an awesome display at the Sky Theater in Mount St. Helens or experience STEAMworks, the latest science, technology, engineering, art and math gallery!
