Charleston is a beautiful city tucked among the forested hills of West Virginia. The West Virginia State Capitol is easy to spot from anywhere in the city (even from the highways that cut through and around Charleston) thanks to its signature shiny gold dome, which is 292 feet tall and 75 feet in diameter. It’s set on the banks of the Kanawha River, further adding to the setting.
State Capitol tours, and tours of the Governor’s Mansion are available for guests, school groups, etc.The West Virginia State Capitol is the seat of government for the U.S. state of West Virginia, and houses the West Virginia Legislature and the office of the Governor of West Virginia. Located in Charleston, West Virginia, the building was dedicated in 1932. Along with the West Virginia Executive Mansion it is part of the West Virginia Capitol Complex, a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Back again! This time I took more pics and up close. Still enjoying this architecture on my road trip to the Eastern Coast.
I always enjoy looking at this when we take an East coast trip South from Ohio. It's such a pretty U.S. Capitol building! It's great even to view from the road.
