“mere minutes from Monticellos”
Carter Mountain Orchard, located next to Michie Tavern and mere minutes from Monticello, is open mid-April through November (and weekends in December). The fun starts in the spring with apple blossom time, a craft festival, and the chance to check out the view early in the year. In the summer, you can head up the hill and pick-your-own tree-ripened peaches, or purchase Ready-Picked fruit in our market. You'll also find nectarines, white-fleshed peaches, fresh local veggies, and summer apples - perfect for applesauce and cooking. As summer fades, the action heats up on the mountain with the mid-August start of our spectacular apple season. Pick Your Own, or buy fresh picked in the Apple Barn, all the way through November. You'll find a dozen varieties including Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Winesap, Fuji, and Pink Lady, among many. We also offer pumpkins galore, fresh Apple Cider, Aunt Sarah's Bakery with home-made apple cider donuts (a runaway hit year after year), fresh-baked apple pies, apple caramel cookies, hand-dipped ice cream, and delicious lunch foods in the Mountain Grill.
