“Get Closer to Nature in Chatham!”
Located on a peninsula on Caney Lake, Jimmie Davis State Park offers two boat launches and a fishing pier that cater to the sportsmen looking for a prime freshwater fishing spot. Waterskiing is another way to enjoy the clear waters of the lake, which was created by damming Caney Creek in 1986. Don't forget to look back at the lakeshore to appreciate the beautiful mixed pine and hardwood forest surrounding the lake and the birds and animals that make the forest their home. To ensure that there's never a dull moment, the park also has a playground for the kids after a day on the lake. Cyclists will enjoy the park as a starting point for biking treks through the hills of North Louisiana, and nature lovers are invited to discover the beauty of the wooded land and lakefront. Bring your binoculars to get a closer look at the wide variety of birds that live in or pass through the area. After a day of fishing and exploring the park, stay the night in a cabin...or bring the extended family and sleep over in a lodge. For large groups, a group camp -- including two dormitories and a dining hall -- is available, with its own playground and fishing pier. RV campers have several scenic sites to choose from, for a closer visit with nature. Opened in the fall of 1996, Jimmie Davis State Park was originally named Caney Creek Lake State Park. The 2003 Louisiana State Legislature approved renaming the park in honor of two-term Governor Jimmie H. Davis, who served from 1944 to 1948 and again from 1960 to 1964.

I would pick a campsite on the lake if available as those seem to have more shade. In the heat of the summer having a boat would probably make it a better experience. Probably a great place to stay when the weather is really nice.

Back in site had plenty of room to maneuver, was level and had plenty of space for parking tents and kayaks.
Bring everything you need for fishing with you. The two marinas we tried on the lake had no live bait. They had some essentials but would also not have batteries for items they sold (like a bubble box).
The park had some really nice looking cabins/lodges. Our RV site was very close to the boat dock which was very convenient. We fished at night in the lake and from the dock. The entire park was rather empty, park ranger said it was unusual, but, we were there only a couple of weeks after hurricane Ida landed a few hours south so maybe that impacted the crowd and the fishing.
We're looking forward to going back and fishing more of the lake. The fishing was slow but we still caught a few bass, bream and catfish.

Jimmie Davis State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and has a number of amenities. We had a great stay the days before Thanksgiving, and the weather was awesome. The fall leaf colors were spectacular. Caney Lake is clean and beautiful. I enjoyed walking and sitting along the lake in the mornings. Bathrooms were clean.
Stayed in campsite #52. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, and water. No deck, sewer, Wi-Fi, and cable TV hookups. It has a large area on door/awning side. Awning faced west but the trees provided ample shade from the evening sun shining underneath. The spot is well spaced from other sites. The site is located near the lake. I wish the site had a paved patio or deck like site 51 and 54 on either side. Nearest neighbor was at least 30-40 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt/concrete/gravel.
Both AT&T and Verizon had low signal (2 bars each). AT&T Speedtest = 16.8 Mbps down, 1.4 Mbps up. We camped in a Travel Trailer. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Jimmie Davis State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Spent 4 nights here in a gorgeous spot #61. 50 amp service and water but no sewer hook up. Some premium spots do have sewer hookups. We used the dump station and it was easily accessible in our 40’ Class A. Our spot had a wooden deck and good shade. We had a view of the lake. We had plenty of room between us and our neighbors. The park is quiet and we had groups of kids on both sides of us. The only lacking is WiFi and cell service but if you don’t need that to be happy this place is all you could ask for. Bring your boat and/or your floaties. There are boat launches in the park and a swim beach. Tall pines and hardwood trees keep almost very site shaded. Roads are blacktop as are the sites. We had no problem leveling. Staff is friendly and helpful. You can tell you’re in the rural south. Highest ratings from us.

We arrived at Jimmie Davis State Park mid afternoon. Beautiful park with many nice sites. Our site - #61 - was lovely. Plenty of shade, a wooden deck, fire ring, bbq grill, 50 amp electric and water hook up. No sewer, but dump station available. We were very near the bath house and laundromat. The bath house was a little dated, but very well maintained and clean. The laundromat had two washers and two dryers as well as a long counter for folding. The machines took quarters or you also had the option to pay with your phone.
We drove around the park - many new cabins right on the lake that look really nice. May want to come back to this park - pretty lake. We had stopped at a WalMart before getting to the park. Bought steaks for dinner and a few other items. Thunderstorms were near us and we got some rain, but experienced no heavy winds. There was some lightning, though.
Enjoyed this park, even though only one night.
