Typical of the borderline dive-y neighborhood bars that used to be scattered around Wicker Park -- before rampant gentrification brought hip lounges and overpriced martinis -- Phyllis' is a small, generally uncrowded hangout that books live rock music (sometimes jazz and blues) on weekends. Depending on the night, you could be surrounded by a crowd of hipsters or find yourself chatting with a far-from-busy bartender. Either way, Phyllis' will whisk you back to the days of blue-collar Chicago.
