“blues bands playing in close atmosphere”
Whether you are an invested blues aficionado, or just a blues browser, you'll enjoy B.L.U.E.S. A trip here is a no-risk venture into some reliably good music. And this stands true seven days a week, 365 days a year. B.L.U.E.S. features primarily local artists (e.g. Son Seals, Eddie Shaw, Magic Slim, Eddy Clearwater). The atmosphere is friendly and intimate. Stretching along its right side is a long bar, and along its left side a riser for overflow seating. Small tables mold parties into intimate groups, fostering a close atmosphere amongst friends and neighbors. The set-up is such that no matter where you sit, you're always in the middle of the action. Weekends are busy, so if you want to score a barstool, you'll need to arrive early. There is plenty of space on weeknights, though. As a matter of fact, you might find yourself elbow to elbow with your favorite blues artist having a drink on his or her day off. It offers the assurance of good music in a friendly, intimate environment.
If you're looking for a blues venue in Chicago north of the Loop, head to B.L.U.E.S. Sure, it's somewhat gimmicky and it definitely caters to tourists, but that's what a blues club has to do to survive these days, even in Chicago. And it's a far more authentic experience that actually focuses on the music than the yuppie/fratstar/godawful trash you get when you step into Kingston Mines next door.
