“A popular dive tavern”
Gingerman Tavern attracts everyone from hardcore bikers to skinny-jeaned rockers who couldn’t tell a Hail Mary from a Bloody one. A true dive, the space features a dusty décor of old photographs, paintings, and an assortment of scuffed wooden furniture where regulars kick back for some low-key conversation.
A rare breed of classic Chicago bars, the Gingerman (or G-man, as it's sometimes called) is a great place to check out, especially before or after a show at the Metro. The clientele is always eclectic and always genuine, and there's always a chance you can pester the lead singer of a soul-revival band to take a shot of malort with you when all he wants to do is pick up phone numbers next to the pool table.
Also they were showing an episode of Animal Planet's "Too Cute" last time I was there, which endeared me to the Gingerman for forever and always.
