Our Take

Located in serene Eden Park, the Cincinnati Art Museum is a historic institution that you can tell the locals treasure. The museum's collections offer a variety of art forms from across time and space, and their rotating exhibits are always particularly interesting. And, their displays of Rookwood pottery really show off why Cincinnati is so fond of the ceramics company.

“One of the oldest art museums in U.S.”

Located in scenic Eden Park, the Cincinnati Art Museum is one of the oldest art museums in the United States. Founded in 1881, it was the first purpose-built art museum west of the Alleghenies. Its collection of over 60000 works make it one of the most comprehensive collections in the Midwest. Museum founders debated locating the museum in either Burnett Woods, Eden Park, or downtown Cincinnati on Washington Square. In addition to displaying its own broad collection, the Art Museum also hosts several national and international traveling exhibitions each year. Visitors can enjoy the exhibitions or participate in the Art Museum’s wide range of art-related programs, activities and special events. General admission is always free for all, plus Art Museum members receive additional benefits. The Art Museum is open six days a week, making greater Cincinnati’s most treasured cultural asset accessible to everyone. The Cincinnati Art Museum is supported by the generosity of individuals and businesses that give annually to ArtsWave. The Ohio Arts Council helped fund the Cincinnati Art Museum with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. The Cincinnati Art Museum gratefully acknowledges operating support from the City of Cincinnati, as well as our members.

I was already a big fan of the Cincinnati Art Museum, but became an even bigger fan when my five-year-old decided he loved Van Gogh after a field trip. It’s a great place to introduce kids to art.

You can't beat a free museum to see classic art and interesting exhibits! Having been to a wedding or two here, it's also very pretty for events.

Wonderful place for events or to just immerse yourself in art. Beautiful grounds. Beautiful building. Beautiful art. Some really wonderful big name exhibits roll through as well, so there's always something new and exciting to see here.

It's free. The art they display/curate is top notch. Even the building itself is a piece if art.

The Cincinnati Art Museum is a beautiful venue in its own right, with a great variety of beautiful art within its walls. Being free doesn't hurt it, either. At one point, it was also available for weddings. It is a terrific venue for an intimate wedding.

This art museum is super nice, and I love that it's free to the public. My favorite room is the contemporary art due to the large Andy Warhol piece of Pete Rose.

This is the only art museum I've ever been to that is huge and free! There's so much to do here. Exhibit after exhibit. I've spent a full day in here and still have barely touched even half of the museum. Staff is always friendly, and they recently added a great section for the kids.

Free! Cool rotating exhibits (the last few I saw were each about fashion, and we totally rad) and a solid roster in their collection! Also it's free! And in a cool location! You should go!
