“Food & Drink in Cincinnati, OH”
Gomez Salsa began in the small town of Brownsville, Texas where the best taco of my life was assembled by my abuelita (grandmother), Oralia Gomez. She also hand-chopped the most authentic salsa I’ve ever encountered, which my father made weekly for our family. From them, I learned to make salsa the way they did and began producing and selling Gomez Salsa around the Cincinnati area.
If I could choose to order one meal from Cincinnati before I die, it would hands-down be a barbacoa turtle from Gomez Salsa. These people are not messing around. It's the only late-night place and it's a take-out window. Do not come here after dark without expecting to meet the werewolves of Japps. You will wait for at least 20 minutes, in which case you can always head next door to Halfcut and ask them to deliver (most expert move in city). If you're confused about which salsa to get... I suggest the Gomez + Salsa Verdes or the really really spicy one.
This is some of the best drunk food in Cincinnati, but it's the kind of food that's still delicious when you're sober. I only wish they had a place to sit down (instead of it being just a window) and more hours.
Best street food I had in America..I had the 'Cowboy' special. Messy to eat, but very very tasty!
Do yourself a favor and skip Bakersfield, grab some tacos/turtle from Gomez Salsa and take them next door to Halfcut to enjoy with some beers. I had 2 carnitas tacos and a 'turtle' which is similar to a crunchwrap supreme only with delicious fresh ingredients. It's literally a hole-in-the-wall place, no seating so its take out only. Definitely stop by here and try it out if it's open - my only gripe is they are only open thurs-sat!
Gomez Salsa is the best late-night food in OTR... but this is no secret, so the lines are always VERY long, as well as the wait for your food after you order. They do have a really nice app for ordering, so that might be your best bet.
Either way - fantastic food - get a turtle!
This place gets a lot of hype, so I had to try it. I got a turtle with tofu and chips with the pineapple salsa. The tofu wasn't that great sadly. I think it would have been better with their barbacoa. The pineapple salsa was fresh and packed a major bite. It was good, but still not sure what all the hype's about. I'll give 'em another try and get some real meat next time.
Huge fan of their turtles and have heard amazing things about the breakfast turtles they now serve on Sunday mornings. For sure one of my favorite spots in OTR.
Pretty damn amazing. Not to be missed!
