“It's the house from A Christmas Story!”
A Christmas Story House, now restored to its movie splendor, is open year round to the public for tours. Directly across the street from the house is the official A Christmas Story House Museum, which features original props, costumes and memorabilia from the film, as well as hundreds of rare behind-the-scenes photos. Among the props and costumes are the toys from the Higbee’s window, Randy’s snowsuit, the chalkboard from Miss Shields’ classroom and the family car. After reliving A Christmas Story at Ralphie’s house don’t forget to visit the museum gift shop for your own Major Award Leg Lamp and other great movie memorabilia. A Christmas Story House has FREE street parking on the streets in front of and directly adjacent to the property. A couple of residents adjoining A Christmas Story House run PAID parking on their property. A Christmas Story House is not affiliated with either of these operations. When arriving at A Christmas Story House, we recommend looking for FREE street parking before paying to park. A Christmas Story House Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3), non-profit established to restore and maintain the neighborhood surrounding A Christmas Story House & Museum for future generations to experience and enjoy. The foundation provides grants, both public and private, to projects that enhance and preserve the surrounding neighborhood. If you're a Christmas Story fan then this is a must. They just expanded the shop dramatically and you could even buy a full size bunny suit! Awesome!
Free on-street parking, free to look outside the house. We make the stop every time we're near Cleveland. If you're a fan, pay for the tour, but beware that the interior shots from the movie were filmed in a studio, and the house reproduced them (very accurately, too!).
This was a fun stop! The staff were very knowledgable and shared many facts about the movie and the Cleveland house. Worth the trip.
A great stop, especially if you are a fan of the movie. I would recommend stopping if you get the chance.
The museum was very cool and is easy to find. We too the hour tour and felt there were too many people for the tour to feel comfortable. You get to walk around the house and take photos with the objects. You do learn some interesting tid bits about the movies plot during the tour.
If you have an hour to spare while passing through go for it. If this is your main stopping place I'd pass!
Since I'm a huge fan of the movie, I wanted to see the house. Glad I did! It was hard to find parking on the street on a Friday afternoon. So I went next door to park . I was able to take photos of the outside of the building and walk around . Great photo oppurtunity
We stopped for a brief visit right before Christmas. Had a great time wandering through the museum. We heeded others warnings about skipping the house tour and didn't feel like we missed anything
It's great to see the house, museum and gift shop, and great to see how the foundation has helped revitalize the entire section of Cleveland around it. If you run, checkout their 5K and 10K run done usually the first Saturday each December that goes from downtown in front of the Higbee building out to the Christmas Story House. This year Miss Shields actress signed medals and started the race. Highly recommend a visit to see it year round.
A must if you enjoy the movie; you can even stay in the house overnight for a fee, booked months in advance. Easy to get to, and the neighbours will offer parking for $5 off-street, even though onstreet is free, but hard to come by.
