“17,000 sq feet of ice cream making”
The Turkey Hill Experience is a 17,000 square foot attraction in Columbia, PA — right here in Lancaster County. The Turkey Hill Experience pays homage to Turkey Hill's history while highlighting its ice cream and iced tea-making processes. The Experience includes interactive exhibits (including a chance to make your own virtual ice cream flavor), a gift shop, and lots of other fun things for the entire family! Come learn how our ice cream is made, sit in our milk truck, brainstorm your own ice cream flavor, milk a mechanical cow and learn about the people and culture of Turkey Hill. Discovery and delight abound for the whole family. And of course, there are free samples of Turkey Hill ice cream and iced tea!
This was a bust for us. There were tons of kids in there all clamouring for the same few activities. We didn't opt for the special classes because my sons (6 and 11 mo.) wouldn't have had the patience for them.
We got two free samples (one shot of iced-tea and one pint-sized serving of delicious ice cream), but beyond clicking on a touch screen a few times and spending a couple minutes in a super small ball pit, there's no real "activity" to do. We didn't even "make a commercial" at the videography area because there were simply too many people there.
Unless you're actually making ice cream in their classes, I'd go ahead and skip. Not worth the entrance fee.
Probably great for kids (ages 0-12), but there's not much for anyone older to do. The unlimited tea/ice cream samples are nice, but that's about it unless you want to make a fake ice cream flavor on a computer. (Btw, you never actually eat this "flavor," you just invent it and throw the paper away.) I'm sure this is great for kids, but it should be more apparent there's basically nothing for anyone out of elementary school. Other places nearby have figured out how to appeal to all ages...maybe someday Turkey Hill will follow suit!
