“An awesome Texas Hill Country winery!”
After buying this beautiful property near Comfort, Texas in 1993, Dick & Julie Holmberg found the Texas Hill Country irresistible, so plans were made to move there permanently. Inspired by their love of wine and travels to major wine regions, they studied the feasibility of planting a vineyard. In 1998 their home was built and the first Merlot vineyard was planted. Singing Water Vineyards was born. Family and friends came together to help plant the first grapevines. This custom of family and friends helping to bring in the annual harvest continues. The name Singing Water describes the wonderful sound that fills the air as the waters of Bruins creek cascade over the waterfall on the property. When the vines began producing, the grapes were sold to other Hill Country wineries. What started out as making a little wine for themselves and friends, grew into a bonded winery in 2004. In May of 2005 the first commercial wines were sold. By October, they were sold out. That same year a historic Texas Hill Country barn was moved to the property and restored as the Singing Water tasting room. Due to increased demand for their wines, a second vineyard was planted with Syrah and Pinot Grigio. Dick and Julie are very pleased to have Ann, their daughter, join the family business. With family dedication, the dream continues to grow. Recently, Lauren Conklin joined the team to assist as the Marketing Manager. Together, this group, along with an amazing tasting room staff, works hard to keep Singing Water Vineyards growing and producing fine wines and offering a “relaxing and hometown feel” the minute you enter the property. Along with an ever-growing Wine Club, they are committed to producing premium wines to share with all who visit their winery. Their wines have been awarded many medals at local and international wine competitions. Recently they received Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for all 6 wines entered in Houston, San Francisco, San Antonio and the Lone Star International Wine Competitions. Their Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Texas Reserve, Freedom and Sweet Lupe are becoming very well known throughout the Texas Hill Country and beyond! The winery offers beautiful scenic grounds with picnic areas which host many art and music events throughout the year. Come enjoy a glass of your favorite Singing Water wine!
The Traveling Winers on Texas Wine Trail
We started off touring day 3 with our first visit being to Singing Water Vineyards. What a wonderful start to a trailing day! The folks here at Singing Water are simply the friendliest folks you will ever find. We immediately felt taken in to their home/place of business with warm, loving arms. Traci, our hostess, and Lauren, the marketer and our second hostess, made us feel right at home.
We spent some time with Kevin, the Assistant Vintner, who gave us a tour of their facility and a VERY nice education. I learned a couple of new tidbits (read our blogs to learn them also!), which I always find interesting. And, did you know that the creek for which the vineyard is named after dried up in 2010! Kinda sad!
We did learn that the owners, Dick & Julie Holmberg, bought the place in 1996 and had their first harvest in 2001. They have a really cool room that is dedicated solely to active duty and retired military. Pictures and letters hang on the wall. It is so gracious and respectful. They also have the most amazingly relaxing looking backyard type area, just waiting for spring time to arrive!! I can envision great get-togethers here in warmer weather!
And the wine…well….very nice! “A’s” and “B’s” with only 1 “C” in the bunch. Mark this vineyard down as a “go-to” stop on your next wine trail in the Fredericksburg area!
