Seasonal cottages and lakefront motel with kitchenettes and balconies on Lake Fanny Hooe and bordering 250,000 acres of northern wilderness. Campground with water/electric and full hook-up sites for tents and RVs. Amenities include free wireless internet, clubhouse, sandy swimming beach, excellent fishing, outdoor fire pits, picnic tables, grills, boat rentals, gift shop/camp store, LP gas, dump station, laundromat, and playground. Direct access to hiking, biking, and ATV trails. Walking distance to most of Copper Harbor’s shops and restaurants. Nearby Keweenaw attractions include Lake Superior, Fort Wilkins, Copper Harbor Lighthouse, Delaware Copper Mine, Brockway Mountain and ferry service to Isle Royale National Park.
Great location to town and easy access to the mountain bike trails.
Staff is friendly and accommodating but rare to find someone in the office.
Pretty much self-check in, which was challenging when we needed assistance and had very poor cell phone (Verizon) coverage.
WiFi coverage and bandwidth was also sparse.
Full service sites were mostly level, mix of grass and dirt.
While not the perfect campground, this one isn't bad for the price. It's a beautiful location and the staff are very nice and helpful. The bathroom and shower house are older but are quite clean. Sites are for the most part level, with a few exceptions. The playground is clean and modern. I know this campground is under new ownership, so perhaps some of the negatives are going to be changed!
There are 2 main issues I've encountered, and neither are that big of a deal. 1. The electric boxes are at the front of the sites, so we had to run an extension cord, luckily our water hose was long enough (water is also at front of sites.) 2. Wi-Fi! This area has very little cell service, and understandably so. The campground offers Wi-Fi, we moved our location 3 times to find a spot that kind of worked. Spots 7, 6, and 5 are best. What you're looking for is the point to point Wi-Fi is on top of the clubhouse, it's a round disc. You must have line of sight to this device. We could only connect when outside of our trailer. (Tip: if you need cell service, you can pick it up at the one gas station in town, or go up Maganese Rd or Brockney Mt.
