“Enjoy the great view!”

Our goal at Indian Falls Log Cabin Restaurant is to serve you the finest food possible at reasonable prices. So, come on in, sit down, relax and enjoy the atmosphere and the view of the waterfalls. The area around the ‘Falls’ has been a treasure of History since history has been recorded. Once port of the Tonawanda Indian Reservation, the Indians were the first inhabitants. They erected a saw mill besides the falls. The first recorded pioneers visiting the area was noted in Tume:’s Pianos I-liflorf of the Holland Land Purchase of WNY when Colonel Dunham went to a party of settlers To attack a den of rattlesnaloa at the falls. The falls was known to the Indians as ‘lie place of Ifllasdafl The most famous citizen was Ely Parker, a Seneca Indian who was an aide to General Grant during the Civil War. He was born in a log cabin on the hill overlooking the falls in ‘I828. In ‘I842, Jerome Corey drew up a map and had dreams of a city around the falls. He planned to call it "Tonawanda Falls’. In 1862 It was decided it was time for a post office. A request was sent to Washington, but was denied by the Batavia Post Office. The Postmaster did not want to ride the 15 miles to check with the residents on a name. He sent the Name ‘Indian Falls’ to Washington, and it was accepted. The water falls provided many businesses with power an the early days. In 1879 Samuel Gilmore built a roller mill at thefalls. There was a saw mill, two grist mills, a manufacturing company and a mining company. Other businesses included a cider mill, vinegar vat, apple dryer and a creamery A picnic grove above the falls provided a place for picnics and entertainment for many years. Sunday School picnics were held there as early as the 1850's. Thousands congregated to exchange ideas and have good times. When automobiles provided faster transportation, hundreds descended upon the area. However with the great depression years the visitors from the cities dwindled In the late 1940's life picked up again when Phil Morrot opened the Boulder Amusement Park. Indian Falls became a popular Place to visit. In 1955 a group of local men constructed Indian Falls Lake which was popular for swimming and camping. Later a camping con. vention attracted thousands from all over the US to Indian Falls. The present hdimfdlslog Cdaii &auruIbuilt in 1946 strives to continue the history, preservation and engoyment of the falls for all to see.
