“Discover the importance of honeybees”
Bee City is just a stone's throw from the beautiful Edisto River just three miles north of Givhans State Park on Hwy. 61, near Givhans, between Summerville, SC and Walterboro, SC. We focus on educating the public on the importance of honeybees. You can schedule a field trip with a group of 15 or more or just visit on your own. Our classroom contains beekeeping equipment and learning materials, as well as a glass observation bee hive. Get a close look at the workers, drones, and the queen. The petting zoo at Bee City has become quite an attraction. Our petting zoo consists of domestic and exotic animals, which include deer, monkeys, lemurs, wallabies, alpacas and llamas. Our nature center features snakes from SC as well as lizards, turtles, frogs & alligators. It's an enjoyable educational experience. Our gift shop contains our own locally produced honey, bee pollen, and beeswax. We make our own beeswax skin cream, beeswax hand and body lotion, beeswax lip balm. We also make many beeswax candles and figurines. Some of our specialties include chocolate covered honey, spun honey, and honeycomb. In our cafe, we serve old fashion hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and fries.
Minimal bee exhibit. Really just more of a petting zoo. Some of the animals are in small cages which was kind of depressing. If you are looking for an educational bee center, this is not the place.
The petting zoo is worth it! $5 entrance fee, plus $4 for a feed package (to feed the animals). All kinds of animals eat from your hand. I underestimated how cool that would be; it was awesome. There are also lots of reptiles and creepy crawlies you don't touch. Although I've heard that workers sometimes have those guys out to pet (tarantulas, snakes, baby alligators, etc.) Really neat place, and at a great price.
While there weren’t a ton of bees there was an incredible amount of animals and great experiences with them. You could feed a variety of monkeys, birds, llamas, emus, deer, and a donkey. The people working there were very knowledgeable and we learned a ton while there. Definitely worth the stop and price.
This was not what we expected. No bees. Some of the bee houses pictured here are still hanging around, but not out as a spectacle. Lots of monkeys and random animals. We were overall confused. If you've got little kids, maybe worth a run around. If you're a city girl like me, skip it.
Enjoyed petting and feeding the exotic animals they have!!!
Bee City is a great trip for the whole family! Lots of animals to pet, picnic areas, fun exhibit like the "town" and more for those who visit.
Very popular road stop for families. Good location near the Edisto River, three miles north of Givhans State Park.
