“1 of the tiniest churches in America”
The Smallest Church in America was built in 1949 by Mrs. Agnes Harper and is "deeded to Jesus Christ." It is located on US 17 north of South Newport. It's probably not the smallest.. but it's pretty darn small. Signs help you find the place. Area nearby to sit and have lunch. This small church has chairs that will sit 6 on each side. The church is a small white building about 10'x20'. A bell tower (proportional in size to the church) was added to the church in 1998. There are stained glass windows on either side and the back wall.
Seeing America's smallest, biggest, best, worst, weirdest, etc, should be a no brainer for all roadtrippers so be sure to mark this one on your map (correction: app). Plus, you get to ring the cool bell beside the church.. try resisting that temptation!
Neat stop right off I95. I concur with Ms. Jenkins. The church is no where near the icon on the mobile app map. It is located off the northbound lane of HWY 17 just about a mile south of I95 exit 67. There is also a geocache at the site.
Great roadside stop. Unfortunately, recent vandalism caused original church to burn down;however, God's people are stepping up and rebuilding it!!
We met Pat Young, the church caretaker, super nice man! We also met several volunteers there who welcomed us with Gods love, smiles, and warm chili. Can't wait to visit again and see this beautiful place rebuilt! Should be ready 1/1/16.
This was a lovely little stop - and barely a mile off 95. Worth the trip. : )
Easy to get to from I-95. Great place to stretch your legs & take some photos.
So adorable. We made a ten minute stop with the kids on our road trip. Wrote a prayer in a prayer book and got a few pics. Worth it!
One of the highlights of our road trip from Washington DC to Orlando! Awesome!!!
just happened to find this by just enjoying taking a slower pace than the interstate while on a trip to visit my mother on st. simons Island,G.A. back In the early nineties very neat to have found this little wonder told many people about It also I belive that the readers digest had an article about It.
This was a great stop!! Although a little creepy because we stumbled upon it at a bad time on our trip (4 am), you can imagine how the woods behind it could be a little spooky. Driving around it was enough for us! Great stop and easy to find.
Great little place to visit! I believe the app updated its location.
