“A Rare Oasis in Prairie Country!”
Large bodies of water such as this are rare in prairie country, and Tongue River Reservoir State Park is a popular place in southeastern Montana to enjoy water-based recreation activities. Boating and other water sports are favored here and the park boasts excellent bass, crappie, walleye and northern pike fishing. This state park offers more than 150 campsites, including 40 paved campsites with electrical hookups. 73 campsites are reservable through the online reservation program while 83 campsites are held back for spontaneous, first-come, first-served campers. The park is 642 acres in size at an elevation of 3,468 feet. The site also has a fish cleaning station and LP gas refill.
This was a bit of a random stop for us but so worth the 20+ miles off the route. Very peaceful, beautiful countryside. We had an electric camping site at the very end of one of the peninsulas. Great place to camp between Devils Tower and Yellowstone. A bit pricy for one night and just pit toilets but the beauty definitely helped make up for that. Great place if you like to fish and have your own boat.
Very out in the middle of nowhere. Don't expect to have cell service and if you arrive late make sure you grab your ice and firewood right when you get off the interstate.
