“One of the East Coast's best swimming holes”

The Peekamoose Blue Hole in the Catskills forest is one of New York's best-kept secrets. It's the perfect place to escape from NYC during the hot summer months, but you'll have more luck with parking if you go in late spring or early fall. The swimming hole is actually a part of the Sundown Wild Forest, which is maintained by the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation. The Peekamoose trail is just off Peekamoose Road, County Route 42. The swimming hole itself is deep and there are spots to practice your diving. There's also a rope swing on site. There is a small parking area, and if you park illegally you will likely get a ticket or towed. Look fro the Peekamoose Mountain area for the parking sign. After parking, walk across the road, along a creek to the swimming hole. DO NOT: Bring glass, leave trash, start a fire, and no loud music. IMPORTANT: If you visit Peekamoose, be courteous, respect the swimming hole and the beauty that surrounds it. - Roadtrippers

People have been going nuts for this local swimming whole. There are a few parking areas (four!) and sometimes even rangers around in the summer to help direct the traffic. That's how popular it's gotten. Still a good spot though. A true hole. I like Bash Bish falls in the Berkshires better if you're looking for a spot outside of NYC for a day trip and hike.
