“Wildlife Rich Park in Dennysville!”

The wildlife-rich waters of Cobscook Bay surround this 888-acre park on three sides, providing opportunities to watch birds and observe the ebb and flow of the region's impressive tides. Cobscook, the Maliseet-Passamaquoddy tribal word for "boiling tides," aptly describes this setting where the tidal range averages 24 feet and can reach 28 feet (compared to a 9-foot average tide along Maine's southernmost coast). Cobscook Bay State Park is a great base for family camping and explorations in easternmost Maine. Many of the park's 106 campsites (both for tenting and RVs) border Whiting Bay, a sheltered inlet within the larger bay. The Park offers a boat launch for those with the experience to handle boating in challenging conditions (with rapids created by fast-moving tides). Cobscook Bay is an unusual estuary with a narrow opening to the sea, a long and convoluted shoreline, and relatively few feeder streams and rivers. Nutrient-rich salt water flowing in from the Gulf of Maine stimulates plankton growth, which in turn feeds a vast array of invertebrates (such as shellfish and marine worms). Eagles, ospreys, seals, otters and even the occasional bear enjoy the Bay's abundant fish, including smelt, alewives, shad, sea-run brook trout, striped bass and the Atlantic salmon. The Bay's productive food web nourishes more than 200 bird species (see the website for more details). Attracted by Cobscook Bay's sheltered coves, mudflats, and eelgrass beds, thousands of shorebirds stop over each fall to rest and forage as they migrate south from northern breeding grounds. The Bay's inner coves support a quarter of Maine's wintering black ducks and the state's highest concentration of bald eagles. A free birding list for the Cobscook Bay region is available at the Park entrance.

There are no hookups anywhere in this park. But if you are looking for a place to camp close to the ocean, this is hard to beat. Online booking through a State of Maine website; review carefully as many sites have size limits. Camper vans and small travel trailers have better odds of getting a site on the water. But even if you don’t score a primo spot, a short walk will put you on the shore. Highly recommended.

Absolutely gorgeous campground. Easily the most private sites of any campground we visited. Every site seems to have a water view. It's remote, and there is no electricity at any of the sites, but there is water. The toilets are not complete washroom style bathrooms but they are very clean. There are coin operated hot water showers but we didn't try them so can't attest to them but assume they are fine.

Cobscook Bay state park is located on a peninsula jutting into Cobscook Bay, and therefore it's surrounded by water on 3 sides. One of the most popular remote campgrounds in Maine, the best sites are reserved as soon as the reservation window opens every year.

This is a great place to launch your kayak into the Bay and explore Maines incredible coast. Just pay close attention to the tides, as this part of the world experiences some of the biggest tides in the world and you could easily get in trouble if you are not paying attention.

One of the most interesting experiences in this park is gathering your own clams. Every camper is allowed to collect up to one peck of clams for consumption without needing a permit. The clams that I have gathered here where the most delicious clams I have ever had. However I must warn you, clamming is not really a fun or pleasant experience. It is back breaking work, and takes a long time to collect just a handful of clams. Perhaps the exhausting experience of gathering clams is what makes them so delicious.

You will find no cell phone signal here, but again this is one of the advantages of this location, getting away from it all.

Great home base to explore the West Quoddy Head lighthouse, and Campobello Island in Canada.

This is our favorite location to camp in Maine, and we make sure to make our reservations for our favorite site as soon as the reservation window opens every February.

We went back to Cobscook state park for the Labor day weekend. This time we had made reservations at our favorite campsite (102) back in February when the reservations open up. Once again we had a great time and while we went to some of our favorite places, we also explored a few places we had not been to yet.

In addition to the locations listed in my original review, I would recommend a visit the town of Eastport, as well as the Moosehorn national wildlife refuge.

I would also consider bringing your kayak and so a little paddling on Cobscook bay. However, MAKE SURE you study the tide time tables as the tides here can be extreme. Only paddle on the rising tide and take advantage of the slack tide.

Our favorite site is number 102 as it provides a great deal of privacy and some beautiful views. While this campsite is spacious, I still have to back my 20 foot Airstream in. However once there you will be rewarded by a spectacular view of the bay, as well as quiet and solitude. One of the things we love about this site is that is is nearly completely shaded even in the middle of the day. This site also offers a gazebo with a picnic table.

Our second favorite site is 116, also offering quiet and solitude, plus a lean to. However this lean to is not really for sleeping. There is a picnic table inside. This site is mostly shaded.

Site #8 is the favorite of many, but not for us. Although it does offer commanding views of the bay as it is situated on a small peninsula, your camper will be facing the wrong way. Also the site offers little shade and is very close to a few other campsites.

There are no hookups at Cobscook Bay, but there is a dump station, showers, pit toilets and water throughout the campground.

One last thing, there is no Verizon coverage whatsoever.

This park was one of the best parks we have stayed at in Nth America. Although there is no power and water the quality of each site and the solitude more than made up for the lack of hookups. Our site was large with manicured lawns surrounded by bush and a fire pit.

Close by to the site was a water tap and the generator hours are very generous. 8.00am to 8.00pm. They have drop loos dotted around the camp ground if you wanted to use them and we checked a couple out and they did not smell.

There are critters around including a 40 lb Raccoon who was terrorizing tent campers looking for an easy meal. He never visited us although we wanted him to so we could photograph him. If you like humming birds they are regular visitors to the site as well.

Verizon pre Paid phone did not work but Verizon Internet did on 4g.

The rate includes a $25.00 booking fee.

Beautiful natural setting with many sites best suited for tents. Sites here are variable to say the least and VERY popular! All the staff were great! Very well kept campground but this is still a campground with pit toilets and not the newer variety which is so open and clean. There are also mosquitoes in evening and morning and that’s the only reason why I didn’t give it a 5 star rating. There’s also a nearby hotspot and power to charge devices at the maintenance building, which was much appreciated! This is a tidal area, so you are either looking out on wet sand/mud or water. T-Mobile got service from Canada.

We stayed here 3 nights 16,17,18 July 2018. There are about 10 RV sites on the water and #4 which was a walk up site was the best in our opinion. There is a island you can access from site 4 at low tide. Just know that the tides rise and fall 12 to 18 ft. In this area. This park is close to Campobello, the place Franklin Roosevelt stayed as a kid and later in life in the summer for vacations. It is also close to Quoddy State Park which is a light house and park on the eastern most point in the US. Also on the way to Campobello you can stop in Lubed Maine the eastern most town in the US. We were getting our cell service while at site 4 from Canada. We had 3 bars. The showers are near the entrance so we drove the truck to take showers. The view here was just amazing for someone from Florida.

We reserved the site in the early summer. We wanted a site right on the water and this did not disappoint. I felt it was the best site with the most open view of Cobscook Bay. The site was level and plenty of room for our 2003 Winnebago Sightseer. Very quiet and relaxing. The breeze coming of the water was soothing. My daughter and I watched the Kingfishers hunting and later viewed the large full moon rise up out of the horizon.

Tucked along the forested coastline of Cobscook Bay, this campground showcases the true beauty of Maine. This is what you picture when you imagine camping. Although the sites have no hookups, it is well worth it to experience beautiful views, extra space, and privacy. Besides a few nice hikes in the area, this is the kind of place you visit just to get away and relax.

Pros:
- MASSIVE campsites, like the biggest we’ve ever seen. Most are pull through loops.
- Extremely private, felt like we were the only ones in the campground.
- Even if you’re not lucky enough to nab an ocean view, the forest sites are also beautiful.
- Although no hookups, there is always a water spigot a short walk away, and the campground also has pit toilets, shower house, dump station, dumpsters, recycling.
- Strong Verizon signal for work, video calls. We were pleasantly surprised! (9mbps down/4 up)
- Very friendly & helpful staff.
- Activities include clamming, short nature hikes, boat launch, and RELAXING!
- Pet friendly

Cons:
- no hookups
- Not near much, but who cares!

Summary of the RV sites:
- Best sites are 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 28 (best ocean views)
- 10, 12, 26 are the biggest campsites I’ve ever seen
- Would not recommend 14 - 18 - the peek at the ocean is not worth the lack of privacy
- Ocean views at the tent sites are dreamy. As most are a walk back you can’t really get away with a van/pop up in tent sites as much here.

While in the area we recommend:
- Tide Mill farm (Saturday’s)
- Reversing Falls
- Cutler Coast public reserved land trails
- West Quoddy SP
- Lubec Brewing, Water St Tavern, Monica’s chocolates
- Helen’s (Machias)
