“founded in 1867 by a group of prominent Detroit businessmen”
Woodmere Cemetery was founded in 1867 by a group of prominent Detroit businessmen, including the honorable John J. Bagley, who served as Governor of Michigan from 1873-1877. Woodmere has prominent family heritage including many notable such as the Ford, Carhartt, and Dodge families (to name just a few). Woodmere Cemetery sits on 207 beautifully landscaped acres and features a pond that is fed by the underground “Baby Creek”. While at Woodmere, it is not uncommon to see wildlife including fox, geese, ducks, and multiple species of birds. The cemetery has three garden mausoleums and one chapel mausoleum offering a peaceful environment for quiet remembrance. In addition, Woodmere features many elaborate monuments and private mausoleums.
This is a beautiful cemetery, rich with eclectic crypts and veteran plot.
