“Dinosaurs once roamed here!”
Dinosaurs once roamed here. Their fantastic remains are still visible embedded in the rocks. Today, the mountains, desert and untamed rivers flowing in deep canyons, support an array of life. Petroglyphs hint at earlier cultures. Later, homesteaders and outlaws found refuge here. Whether your passion is science, adventure, history or scenery, Dinosaur offers much to explore.
Way cool for dinosaur buffs. The viewing center is only worth a short walkthrough. There is one small section of wall on display with fossils still embedded in the rocks as well as a camarasaurus skeleton. The walk from the viewing center back down to the visitor center is well worth the trip. You can see more fossils that haven't been extracted plus you get to imagine what it was like when the dinosaurs walked the area. The drive to the petroglyphs is an easy one as well. Unless you are going on an extended hike or rafting trip, it is easy to do this park in half a day and still make it into Vernal for the dinosaur museum.
This place is way off the beaten path but worth it. The kids loved seeing (and touching) the dinosaur bones. Highly recommended.
Seeing and touching the fossils in the rock face was exhilarating. The walk down from the viewing area was great but remember to wear sturdy shoes and bring a hat.
Great place. We learned a lot and found out just how interesting this part of our beautiful country really is. This is a must!
