“one of Wyoming's first tourist attractions”
Ayers Natural Bridge is considered one of Wyoming's first tourist attractions. But for the Indians who first lived in this country, the natural bridge was a deadly place. A young brave had been struck by lightning and killed while hunting the canyon; thus began a legend that an evil spirit lived below the bridge. When white settlers realized this, they used the bridge as a place to escape from Indian attacks. Early-day mountain men lived in caves nearby, and Mormon settlers built cabins nearby in the 1850s. This area is open April 1 through October 31. One of the most unusual geological formations in Wyoming lies 14 miles west of Douglas on I-25. Take exit 151 and continue five miles south to tiny 22-acre Ayres Natural Bridge Park, where the main attraction is a 100-foot-long, 50-foot-high rock arch over LaPrele Creek.
An unexpected oasis! Plan to spend an hour or two here or even the night. A great place to picnic or grill out. Grills and large smokers are available. So glad we took this little detour en route to Yellowstone!
The park closed at 5 so we didn't make it. Also the gps location is off. You have to travel down the dirt road to the end, so add another 15-20 min each way into your time calculations.
Wow. Beautiful. The road is rough but so worth it. You can camp and there are restrooms. A huge place to park and turn around with trailer. Such a beautiful place to stop for a while. Have lunch and let the kids play. No pets allowed. They make that very clear. Had a great time!
What an unexpected treat! A few notes: the road is fixed, no RVs over 30 feet can stay the night, they are serious about NO PETS ($100 Fine). That being said we drove in and out with a 42 foot fifth wheel and it was totally worth the drive!
Oh how I wish we could have stayed the night here! What a hidden gem!
Great open spaces, hidden magical creatures - can you find them all?
RV and camping site (can’t be over 29”).
Barbecue pits, River, bathrooms and also No dogs allowed.
We hiked about 5minutes to the top of the bridge and then explored the base area and playgrounds.
Great little stop on our way home.
Pretty much everything has been said. Cool place to stretch my legs. I especially liked the mini trail that lets you climb to the top of the bridge.
This was a great stop right off the interstate. We played in the water and ate our lunch. Definate stop for us if we are through this area again on a hot day!
I would definitely give this 5 stars had the road to get there not been so awful. They are currently doing construction to an already not so great road (hopefully they are paving it!) so I would not recommend for anyone in a car to do this drive. I was in a Chevy Cruze and totally did not feel like I should have been driving on that road (couldn't turn around because I was following a pilot truck through the construction one way only). Well worth it though. The bridge was so cool! Do be mindful of snakes though, as I almost stepped on one near the bridge.
Great place for a picnic. No more camping though. And the direct road there was under construction in June 2017 so we had to take a scenic bypass. Still so worth it.
Beautiful well manicured & clean park. Loved how quiet & peaceful it was while we visited!!! RV's beware though the road there is narrow & there are some low hanging trees but nothing your 40' or under can't handle. Well worth the stop!
