“Satisfying Blend of Beautiful Vistas”
Situated on the western shore of Lake Bistineau, this park offers a satisfying blend of beautiful vistas and outstanding recreational facilities. Memorable for its upland mixed hardwood forest, its open waters, and its enchanting stands of cypress and tupelo trees, the park offers two boat launches, hiking and biking trails, playgrounds, two swimming pools, camping, cabins and excellent fishing! Beginning in January with the "yo- yo" season and lasting through the spring, summer, and early fall, the dedicated fisherman can draw such freshwater catches as black crappie, largemouth bass, yellow bass, catfish, bluegill, and red-ear sunfish from the lake's clear waters. Lake Bistineau dates back over 200 years. It began in 1800 when several thousand acres of land were flooded due to a gigantic log jam in the Red River. Gradually, however, as the area was dredged, the lake began to drain. Then in 1935, a permanent dam was built across Loggy Bayou, creating the present-day Lake Bistineau. The dam has since been enlarged, giving the reservoir a surface area of 26.9 square miles, with an average depth of seven feet and maximum depth of 25 feet. Area 1 is located in the main section of the park, with cabins, a group camp and swimming beach. Picnicking along the lake is tremendously popular at numerous sites equipped with tables, grills, and nearby restrooms. Several picnic pavilions are also available for larger groups. The park's trail system encompasses nearly 10 miles of woodland trails and an 11-mile canoe trail, for visitors who want to see the park's beauty from the water.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on March 07, 2019We camped here in April, 2015 in a 35 foot fifth wheel. The rate shown is for a premium site with a wooden deck overlooking the lake.
We had camped on a previous trip and I had such fond memories of our first visit there I’ve been looking for an excuse to go back. I even made reservations for site 12, the same one we had camped in before. With a wooden deck and a fishing dock right in front of the site, it was a perfect place to chill for a couple of days.
Check in was quick and easy and we had a nice conversation with the same park ranger I remembered from our previous visit. He is probably the nicest and most helpful person we have ever met in any campground, public or private.
Lake Bistineau State Park is located a short drive south of I-20 near Doyline, Louisiana. The sites have paved parking pads with water and electric hook ups, a picnic table, and fire pit. We had a premium site with a wooden deck overlooking the lake. There are several fishing docks located in the campground and one was right in front of our site. The bath house was spotless and there is a small free laundry. The park also has a boat launch. WiFi is available at the office.
We enjoyed watching Egrets and Herons wading along the shore in search of fish, turtles sunning on logs, and tiny frogs hopping around, all right from our campsite!
I would highly recommend this state park to anyone traveling along I-20 looking for a nice, quiet place to camp. We were here during the week and had the campground almost all to ourselves.

We stayed for two weeks in April. The park is wooded providing privacy for the sites. Premium sites have a nice large wooden deck. But many of the regular spots are just as nice.
The bath house is clean -- and lots of hot water, at least thru the week. We only used the bath house when park was almost empty during the week. Camp hosts are friendly and helpful.
The roads are terrible! Full of pot holes.
On any following visits our choice of a site would be off from the lake

This is a very beautiful park! I really liked having a wood deck at our campsite. We were only here for one night but still had the opportunity to see a deer run through camp while cooking breakfast! We look forward to a longer return visit!

Very pleasant stay here! I arrived after dark; so around 7:00 PM on a Wednesday night. Paid for premium camp site which had a deck and a little more space which I need for 2 big dogs. Restrooms were clean, site was clean, and park was quiet. 10 miles of roads leading up to the park was stressful, 2 lane pot filled roads. Phone conversations with park employees were pleasant! Only 1 other RV in the park on the same night. The birds make crazy noises here! Don’t let them scare you off! Ha!

Arrived at campground on Sunday. GPS takes you to dead end road - beware.. don't turn left on Dement Road if coming from the north. Just go past it and the entrance is about a mile down the road. Called the front desk and staff was very helpful and kind. We parked and drive the car into the campsite to look at the spot to see if the 38' Biggie Smalls will fit. The site looked wonderful, the roads are not so good with pot holes and uneven spots. I hear the mayor is going to get repairs done - good! This is a nice state park with clean facilities and decent space between sites. Our site had a wood deck, picnic table, standing grill, fire pit and a lantern hook. It was March, so the trees did not have any leaves and it was sunny, not shaded. The view from our back window was wonderful! We saw bluebirds, woodpeckers, hawks and much more every morning! I would stay again.

I can’t even imagine how nice a campground this would have been in it’s heyday, but it hasn’t seen much improvement since. (1) The lake is 100% dried up (2) Every site was tilted, narrow, & bumped (3) The hookups (E&W) we’re behind the campsite on the wrong side of the camper (4) We circled the camp 4 times before finding a site we could back into. When we had to drive 5 minutes back to the front of the camp, we had to pay $33 for the Premium site meaning it had a wooden deck instead of the $28. Then $6 entrance fee per person. PROS: Staff and ranger were Sooooo nice and helpful. Thank you to them! CONS: The Park seemed abandoned & dump station was very nasty. It was pretty far off the interstate ~22min for a place that costs as much as a KOA. However, it was a nice stay for one night, but rather difficult to navigate.

Check in was quick and easy. Staff are wonderful and easy to talk to. Showed my National Park Pass and got 50% off our stay.
Site 16 is easy to back into but plenty of pull throughs to choose from as well. We chose our site because it backed up to the water with a small dock right at the campsite. Most sites had wooden decks instead of patios which was nice and level.
Our site had 50/30/15 amp service and water. Three days was the right length to stay before our tanks were full. There is a dump station at the exit of the campground loop. There is also a day use area with many pavilions and a boat launch. Also plenty of hiking trails and even an equestrian loop.
The park has wifi but we were not able to connect. Cell phone coverage, outside was 2 bars with Verizon, and 1 bar in the trailer...but enough to allow us to cast from our phone to watch movies in the evening.
We will definitely stay here again.

Just passing through on our way out west. Large wide sites with new decks. Only a handful of campers the end of February. Would probably give more stars if stayed during a better time of year. The bayou was dried up so was not visually appealing. If you have a National Park Pass be sure to show them and get 50% off your stay. Wouldn’t have known this if not reading reviews on here. Would definitely recommend this park but ask when they lower and raise the water. Bathhouse was a far distance from site #10 so didn’t use and can’t review on that.

The park is off the beaten path but not difficult to get to from the interstate and easy to get back on. Site was mostly level. Wood deck was nice. Restrooms were clean, site was clean, and park was quiet.

Lake Bistineau is a great state park park near Shreveport, LA. We stayed 2 nights. The sites are very shady. The park streets and sites are asphalt. Some roads need repaving. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the lake was drawn down to eradicate an invasive water plant. But, this presented a unique opportunity. We could walk on the dry lake bottom and see the parts of cypress trees that are normally under water.
Stayed in back-in campsite #14 which was level side to side, but the front was higher. The site has a nice view of the lake and a large wooden deck. There was just enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are nearby, but not too close. The site included: picnic table on concrete, BBQ pit, trash pole, and fire ring. Utilities: 20/30/50A electric in back. Water in back, good pressure. No sewer, but a dump station is available. AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon 2 bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 5.1 Mbps down, 0.7 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 7.4 Mbps down, 0.1 Mbps up. No WiFi. Would stay here again.
