“An uncommon vertical lift bridge”
A major landmark in the port city of Duluth, Minnesota. The span began life as an extremely rare transporter bridge — the first of just two such bridges ever constructed in the United States. Originally built in 1905, the bridge was upgraded in 1929–30 to a vertical lift bridge, which is rather uncommon, and continues to operate today. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 22, 1973.

The Aerial Lift Bridge is a sight to behold if you’re into architecture and impressive structures. This bridge was constructed in the early 1900s to make it easier for ships to cross the lake.
Some people like to drive across the bridge; others may just find a spot in nearby Canal Park to sit and watch the iron ore ships passing under the bridge as it rises and falls throughout the day.
We think a visit to the Aerial Lift Bridge is one of the best things to do in Duluth!
Nice and cozy park overlooking Lake Superior. We stopped here for a break and just observed the aerial lift bridge went up and came down. The public parking is convenient for eat out, too. I saw a horse carriage for sight seeing tour.
Have to stop here. Walk across the bridge and check out the lighthouses
